Relationship Data Services are core to Amazon websites, mobile apps, Alexa, and physical stores serving millions of requests per second at single-digit millisecond latency. We provide the definitive related product sets to power product discovery and shopping experiences. Our team owns highly available distributed micro-services, Machine-learning and rule-based validation systems, data stores containing billions of records, and software systems that make related product sets available across Amazon.

Your responsibilities as a Data Scientist include modeling complex problems, discovering insights, and building algorithms using statistical models, machine learning and large language models to enhance the quality of Amazon’s product catalog. You will work alongside with engineering team to scale the machine learning solutions to fit Amazon Catalog scale of terabytes of data that is changing at a rapid speed.

We are seeking an innovative and technically strong data scientist with a background in optimization, machine learning, and statistical modeling/analysis. This role requires a team member to have strong quantitative modeling skills and the ability to apply optimization/statistical/machine learning methods to complex decision-making problems, with data coming from various data sources. The candidate should have strong communication skills, be able to work closely with stakeholders and translate data-driven findings into actionable insights. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

Key job responsibilities

  • Ability to understand a business problem and the available data and identify what statistical, ML and Generative AI techniques can be applied to answer a business question
  • Advance our analytics techniques, including statistical analysis and complex data mining, to deliver faster, deeper insights that shape Amazon’s search and detail page experience for product variations.
  • Understand what data is available, where, and how to pull it together. Work with partner teams where needed to facilitate permissions and acquisition of required data
  • Lead the adoption of Gen AI and ML-based approaches across data science practice to generate metrics at scale.
  • Build production ready advanced analytics solutions to drive effective business decisions.
  • Communicate complex thinking easily at all levels.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
  • 5+ years of data scientist experience
  • Experience with statistical models e.g. multinomial logistic regression

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of data visualization using AWS QuickSight, Tableau, R Shiny, etc. experience
  • Experience managing data pipelines
  • Experience as a leader and mentor on a data science team
  • Knowledge of AWS tech stack (e.g., AWS Redshift, S3, EC2, Glue)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
