Descriptive Summary
The Material Handler – Countertops Division is responsible for receiving, staging, and moving large granite, quartz, and stone slabs throughout the countertop fabrication shop. This role operates forklifts and overhead cranes to safely handle heavy materials and support daily production needs. The Material Handler ensures materials are stored, pulled, and delivered accurately and safely while maintaining a clean and organized warehouse.
Essential Functions
- Load, unload, and move stone slabs using forklifts, A-frames, and overhead cranes
- Stage slabs for fabrication and delivery based on daily install schedules
- Inspect materials upon receipt and before movement for cracks, defects, or inconsistencies
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free warehouse, sweeping and organizing as needed
- Track and organize slab inventory by material type, color, and job assignment
- Assist with loading countertop pieces onto delivery trucks for jobsite drop-off
- Coordinate with fabrication and install teams to ensure timely availability of materials
- Follow all safety procedures for lifting, moving, and handling heavy products
- Perform daily equipment checks and report maintenance needs
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license required; must pass a motor vehicle report
- Forklift certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience using overhead cranes or slab handling equipment strongly preferred
- Prior experience in stone, granite, or construction materials warehouse is a plus
Skills & Competencies
- Comfortable working with large, heavy, and fragile materials
- Safety-focused with strong attention to detail
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to operate forklifts, slab lifters, and cranes with precision
- Ability to lift 75+ lbs regularly and work on feet for 8+ hours
- Basic understanding of warehouse inventory processes and slab identification
