YOUR IMPACT
The role of Sr. Systems Administrator is to build solutions to enhance the availability, performance, and stability of OpenText services as well as automate repetitive work as part of a cloud ops organization.
This role would be a great fit for someone with creative and innovative problem-solving skills. You will develop and implement solutions that operate at scale. Our teams are empowered and expected to improve our products to deliver a truly reliable experience to customers.
WHAT THE ROLE OFFERS
- Installs, builds, and manages virtual & physical servers, network-related devices (ie, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, etc.), web servers, database servers, etc.
- Installs, configures, patches, and troubleshoots Linux and Windows servers and their related software
- Evaluation, planning, installation, and configuration of all application software and, where possible, automated approaches for system administration, deployment, and monitoring tasks
- Participate in assigned short and long-term projects that vary in size, scope, and complexity
- Performs and manages continuous system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key application processes
- Respond to and troubleshoot/resolve assigned incident tickets and rapidly recover from hardware or software failures to ensure high service availability. Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention and participate in RCA and SWAT investigations as needed.
- On-call support (both business and off-hours) and scheduled night or weekend maintenance work
- Write and maintain systems, infrastructure, procedural, and process documentation.
- Reports and addresses security incidents, outages, vulnerabilities, etc. in accordance with our Security System. Actively participates in the establishment and maintenance of our PCI, ISO27001, and other certifications
- Participate in technical discussions and work with IT business and development partners to gather input to develop new capabilities in displaying/monitoring/alerting on key performance indicators (KPIs) by tracking business transactions (BT) in real-time
- Establish and maintain a good relationship with team members, Product Development, Product management, Customer Service, Client management, and other cross-functional teams.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
- Good understanding and working experience of Linux and Windows systems
- Good understanding and experience with AWS services (EC2, RDS, ELB, S3, SES, Route53
- Experience with Continuous delivery tools like Ansible, Puppet to set up automated pipelines as needed.
- Knowledge of AWS services is an asset (EC2, RDS, ELB, S3, SES, Route53)
- Experience with installing, configuring, and supporting middleware technologies such as Apache, Tomcat, and Spring.
- Experience with at least one scripting language such as shell, Perl, Python, JavaScript, etc.
- Database experience and knowledge in Oracle and Postgres is a plus
- Deep expertise in monitoring distributed systems application architectures and the ability to correlate environment conditions and metrics to application events.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix or other open-source tools (ie, Nagios, check_mk, etc.) a plus
- Strong understanding of ITIL principles, certification is a plus.
- Is passionate about “getting under the hood” of systems and technologies to understand their inner workings and fix what needs fixing. This requires diagnosing & troubleshooting user-facing service incidents & outages
