Job Title: Welder Fabricator
Location: Watkins Glen, NY
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Welder Fabricator to join our team. This hands-on role involves cutting, joining, and shaping metal parts using a variety of welding techniques and fabrication tools. The ideal candidate will be proficient in blueprint reading, welding, and assembly of metal components to create high-quality products and structures that meet tight tolerances and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Reading & Interpreting Drawings
- Interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings
- Identify materials, welding processes, and fabrication steps required for each job
2. Material Preparation
- Measure, mark, cut, and lay out raw materials accurately
- Operate shears, saws, torches, and other cutting tools
3. Welding
- Perform MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Cored (FCAW) welding
- Weld various metals including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
- Produce clean, structurally sound welds that meet required specifications
4. Fabrication & Assembly
- Fit and tack-weld parts using jigs and clamps
- Bend, roll, or shape materials using presses, brakes, and rollers
- Assemble welded components into finished structures or equipment
5. Inspection & Quality Control
- Visually inspect welds and use non-destructive testing (e.g., dye penetrant, ultrasonic)
- Ensure all work meets dimensional tolerances and applicable welding codes (e.g., AWS, ASME)
6. Equipment Maintenance & Safety
- Maintain and calibrate welding machines and fabrication tools
- Follow all safety regulations including PPE, ventilation, and fire prevention protocols
Tools & Equipment Used:
- MIG, TIG, Stick welding machines
- Grinders, plasma cutters, oxy-fuel torches
- Brake presses, shears, rollers, clamps
- Welding PPE: helmet, gloves, jackets, respirators
- Precision tools: tape measures, calipers, angle finders, squares
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proficient in multiple welding techniques and fabrication processes
- Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills
- High attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Solid understanding of metallurgy and heat behavior
- Commitment to safety and proper shop practices
Preferred Certifications:
- AWS Certified Welder (American Welding Society)
- ASME Section IX Welder Qualification
- OSHA 10/30-Hour General Industry Safety Training
- Forklift or overhead crane certification (if applicable)
