Job Description and Duties

The Psychiatric Technician Instructor will be directed by the Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN) in the Training Department at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

  • Accurately conduct educational courses to adult learners in safety, security, general behavioral and psychiatric nursing recovery models, and related subjects.
  • Participate in the planning and development of in-service training and policy.
  • Keep records and prepare reports related to in-service training.
  • Utilize effective verbal and non-verbal communicaiton skills.
  • Manage classroom milieu and participant's behavior; report inappropriate behaviors to Training Officer and participant's supervisor, and document.
  • Participate in the evaluation and improvement of in-service training and policy.

In order to be considered for this job vacancy, you MUST satisfy one of the following requirements:

1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at Psychiatric Technician Instructor Exam, OR

2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250, have current employment with the State of California in the same classification with permanent or probationary status, or in a classification that is substantially the same with permanent or probationary status, OR

3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.
