Research Engineering Technician I, Steward Observatory (Extended Temporary)

  • Working under direct supervision with a software engineer lead, will create code using C++ Java to be able to manipulate hardware using INDI, CACAO, CHAI, or other communication software.
  • With very specific direction from a software engineer will help develop software that will be used to run hardware such as motors, switches extra.
  • After developing software will assist the engineer in coming up with a plan to test the software in a safe manner and then assist the engineer in running the test.
  • Assist in the final integration of the top box system, including helping a lead engineer configure and test components such as the CCID75 and LittleJoe.
  • Working under direct supervision from other team members to execute integration plans and validate system performance.
  • Assist in contribute to the INDI-ification (Instrument Neutral Distributed Interface) of top box motors.
  • Assist software engineer lead to maintain and enhance motor control code to ensure compatibility with established INDI standards.
  • Attend meetings for tag up and tasking.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge using JAVA, Python, and C++
