The CoreOS Display Team is responsible for building and maintaining the foundational components that power display functionality across the Windows ecosystem. This includes developing various cutting-edge technologies like Variable Refresh Rate, HDR/Dolby Vision, Night light and color calibration, Remote Desktop, USB Displays, Multi-display support etc. The team works closely with hardware partners to ensure high performance, reliability, power efficiency and seamless display user experiences across local and cloud-based environments. As a Principal Software Engineer in the Display Kernel team, you will work with industry partners to identify new opportunities for driving the display ecosystem forward with critical (and exciting) new features. You will collaborate with internal and external partners to understand the user requirements as well as hardware capabilities, define the OS abstractions to expose new features/capabilities and deliver end-to-end solutions for our customers. You will build a deep technical ownership over the feature spaces you work in, and your expertise will help other teams - both inside and outside of Microsoft - deliver valuable products built on your work. This position requires a good understanding of driver development, kernel-mode programming, and hardware architectures particularly display subsystems.

Preferred Qualifications:
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
