Job Description

We are seeking a Bureau Chief of Security Operations (Human Services Program Administrator 4) in our Central Office. The Bureau Chief of Security Operations will plan, direct, evaluate, and administer statewide security operations for DYS facilities.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as Chief of Security Operations; assist in defining agency goals and objectives; administer facility operations for juvenile correctional facilities (e.g., safety, security, Critical Incident Management, youth transfers, security threat groups, use of force)
  • Directly supervise assigned staff (e.g., create schedules, assign work, evaluate performance)
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to facility security operations and the care/supervision of youth
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate security operations areas; collect and evaluate data and project results; develop and implement improvements; develop training curriculum for pre-service and ongoing training for all DYS staff
  • Represent DYS with other governmental agencies (e.g., community partners, community correctional facilities, Department of Rehabilitation and Correction)
  • Travel to all DYS facilities; act as a consultant and provide direction, training, and technical guidance to DYS staff involved in assigned security areas
  • Maintain knowledge of American Correctional Association (ACA) audit standards and assess each facilities compliance in the assigned security areas

Qualifications

Completion of undergraduate core program in social or behavioral science or pre-medicine; and 30 mos. exp. in delivery of human services or medical assistance in governmental, community or private human support services agency or medical provider; and 12 mos. exp. in management; and 18 mos. exp. in supervisory principles/techniques.

Or completion of graduate core program in social or behavioral science or medicine-related field; and 24 mos. exp. in delivery of human services or medical assistance in governmental, community or private human support services agency or medical provider; and 12 mos. exp. in management; and 18 mos. exp. in supervisory principles/techniques.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

BACKGROUND CHECK NOTICE:

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check that includes results from BCI and FBI, Ohio Department of Public Safety and Ohio Department of Taxation. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position. An individual assessment of an applicant's prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

PRE-SERVICE TRAINING:

All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services are required to attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid training at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. Training Academy hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

DYS is a “qualifying employer” for purposes of the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness [PSLF] program.
