Cloud Engineer III, Lead, or Principal

Job Summary

As a Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for the deployment, integration, and management of private, public, and/or hybrid cloud platform services supporting the development of complex analytical applications at enterprise scale. In this role the incumbent must be able to demonstrate their networking and security protocol knowledge to ensure safe and scalable environment provisioning while protecting accessibility to data assets residing within. The incumbent will be developing infrastructure as code using scripts, templates, blueprints, workflows, CI/CD orchestration tools, and other automation technologies in the spirit of speed and consistency. Continuous collaboration will be an important aspect of this role working with a variety of architects and peer engineering teams ensuring deployed services meet the highest levels of scalability, reliability, and performance while balancing security, maintainability, reliability, and operational excellence.

Essential Functions

Cloud Engineer III and Lead

• Develops infrastructure as code using scripts, templates, blueprints, workflows, CI/CD orchestration tools, and other automation technologies in the spirit of speed and consistency
• Designs, integrate and monitor cloud computing systems
• Manages deployments, all integrations, and troubleshoots platform services
• Collaborates with engineers, architects building systems to meet all needs

Cloud Engineer Principal

• Takes end-to-end ownership and responsibility over critical engineering initiatives including deployment, integration, and management of private, public, and/or hybrid cloud platform services supporting the development of complex analytical applications at enterprise scale
• Champions safe and scalable environment provisioning while protecting accessibility to data assets residing within FedEx Dataworks own network
• Sets the standards for sizing, building, deploying, managing, and monitoring fault-tolerant, 24/7 application infrastructure
• Manages the infrastructure as code using scripts, templates, blueprints, workflows, CI/CD orchestration tools, and other automation technologies in the spirit of speed and consistency
• Continuously collaborates with a variety of architects and peer engineering teams ensuring deployed services meet the highest levels of scalability, reliability, and performance while balancing security, maintainability, reliability, and operational excellence
• Advises junior engineers, managers, and those in less senior positions
• Provides mentorship and guidance to junior cloud engineers to support the continued training and up-skilling of the Cloud engineering team

Minimum Education

• Cloud Engineer III - Bachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.
• Cloud Engineer Lead – Bachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.
• Cloud Engineer Principal - Bachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or related quantitative discipline. Directly related PhD preferred.

Minimum Experience (Not Editable)

• Cloud Engineer III - Three to four (3-4) years’ experience in cloud engineering or related field. Experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting. Some experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.
• Cloud Engineer Lead - Five to seven (5 - 7) years’ experience in cloud engineering or related field. Experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting. Experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.
• Cloud Engineer Principal - Seven plus (7+) years’ work experience in cloud engineering or related field. Strong experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting. Strong experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Editable)

• Strong leader / mentorship
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Azure or other major cloud platform experience
• Highly desirable: Confluent Platform and/or Confluent Cloud administration
• Demonstrable understanding of the 7 layers of the OSI Network Mode
• Conversant in system administration skills and tasks that a well-rounded technologist may need to perform
• Infrastructure as Code
• Experience with one or more programming languages
• Automation and scripting in Powershell and Bash
• DevOps and CICD pipelines
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present and communicate effectively to executive audiences
• Kubernetes experience either with AKS or managing your own Kubernetes cluster
• Must have: Terraform, Yaml configurations, Shell scripting, Kubernetes
• Experience in making alerting manageable but catching problems
• Experience with monitoring stack (Prometheus, Grafana)
• Experience in completing difficult projects, e.g. programming project, system admin, large deployment or migration projects
• Experience with Java or Python, Databricks, Azure services such as Event Hubs, ADF, ADLS, Synapse

Domicile Information: This is a fully remote role and can be based anywhere in the United States.

Pay Transparency: This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential. The Company offers eligible employees health, vision, and dental insurance, retirement plans, and tuition reimbursement.

Pay: US pay range: $8,747.00 - $15,160.00 monthly
