Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Aircraft Systems Avionics Engineer in Dayton, OH.

The Aircraft Systems Avionics Engineer (Computer Systems and Software Airworthiness) will support Air Force Life Cycle Management Center customer at WPAFB, OH. The customer Program Office provides planning and acquisition of cost-effective, long-term critical U.S. Air Force capabilities in an Integrated Product Team structure. The candidate will work side by side with customers and other contractors in the Program Office. Working with the customer, the candidate will also interface with major defense contractors who supply critical defense capabilities. The majority of the work will be performed in the customer workspace. Some travel is expected, up to 20%.

Responsibilities:

Duties to be independently executed include but are not limited to:

  • Be familiar with the DoD acquisitions process.
  • Support development and review of the full range of documentation and products required by DoDI 5000.02.
  • Assist with execution of the USAF Airworthiness process per MIL-HDBK-516 and the AF Life-Cycle Systems Engineering (LCSE) and Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) processes prescribed by AFMCI 63-1201.
  • Support requirements development, allocation, and verification.
  • Support review and evaluation of weapon system design, analyses, and verification documentation and reports.
  • Support requirements development, allocation, and verification.
  • Gather and develop technical and business data necessary to build and, as required, present program briefs.
  • Support program meetings, working groups, and technical and business reviews as needed.
  • Analyze equipment and software performance deficiencies and make recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Support development of contract and documentation changes and updates.
  • Support source selections in a technical advisory role as requested.
  • Familiarization with different tactical Datalinks and aircraft communication systems

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant DoD Avionics experience.

o Two (2) years’ experience on a special access program as a sub-system lead engineer within a recognized ACAT I program office.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, integrating and testing Avionics (Computer Systems & Software), to ensure adequate performance, safety, integrity, and airworthiness.
  • Demonstrated experience assessing hardware, software, and systems are qualified to meet airworthiness criteria, especially criteria in MIL-HBK-516, section 15.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge and experience in:

  • Software and computer system architectures.
  • Software and systems integration processes.
  • Fault tolerance.
  • Computer system hardware and software criticality identification.
  • Safety Critical Function (SCF) thread analysis.
  • Verification techniques for software, hardware and system integration.
  • Developing/maintaining System Integration Laboratory (SIL) facilities with high fidelity test capabilities to V&V software and hardware.
  • System integration verification coverage.
  • Operational Flight Program (OFP) build, load, and flight release process.
  • Functional compatibility of all software and hardware.

Education Requirements:

  • An ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Master’s degree preferred but not required.

Clearance Requirements:

Security Clearance Level Required: Must possess an active Top Secret security clearance, current within five (5) years, based upon a T5 or T5R investigation (formerly known as Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) or SSBI Periodic Review (SBPR)).
