Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Have you wanted an opportunity to secure an advanced satellite broadband telecom service? The Kuiper Security team owns the security of product and operations of Project Kuiper end-to-end. We provide the necessary paved path services, infrastructure and mechanisms to ensure the security of our satellite constellation and to protect the integrity and confidentiality of our customer data. Our team drives the research & development, deployment and operation of several mission-critical security systems and mechanisms. You will work in a start-up like environment, backed by Amazon’s infrastructure to bootstrap security mechanisms, and help instill the security culture in the organization.

As Manager for Security Engineering, you'll manage a diverse team of Security and Systems Engineers to define and continuously maintain the security outcomes across our mission-critical security and trust services supporting Kuiper. These foundational security services are critical systems and must be maintained at a high security bar. Ensuring security is designed into our products through every stage of the software life cycle is critical to upholding the highest security bar.

This team owns designing the security controls across our security and trust services, influencing partner teams on the right security requirements and helping drive adoption of secure by default solutions to achieve and maintain the desired security posture. You'll lead this team to innovate in Security and PKI, helping drive proposals and processes, deliver security tools and automations.

You will closely collaborate with peer development and security leaders to establish, share and leverage security best practices, tools and capabilities to reduce the overall cost of security. Through proactive partnership with Kuiper business, security and tech teams, they'll strategically influence the right security outcomes, diving into the various sources of issues across our Discovery mechanisms.

You are adept at establishing durable mechanisms, breaking down complex problems and defining incremental (working backwards) plans to achieve our goals. You'll collaborate and inform at all levels of the organization establishing processes that track our goals, objectives, milestones, progress and risks, and drive organizational alignment on trade-offs and priorities. You are adept at hiring, developing and managing talent, and have experience building and managing high-performance teams.

A day in the life

You'll lead a team that works on all aspects of security and governance across our mission critical services, from discovery across our development and testing mechanisms, controls design and development, and security tabletops to designing solutions in partnership with your partner development teams.

About the team

Kuiper Trust Services owns the creation and operation of paved path services, infrastructure and mechanisms to protect customer data and Kuiper devices. We are part of the broader Kuiper Security organization chartered to protect services and applications within the Kuiper business teams.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience leading, managing & developing high performance teams
  • 3+ years of progressive experience within a software security team or similar operating environment with in-depth understanding of PKI/Cryptographic concepts, application security assessment methodologies such threat modeling, secure design reviews, secure code review, and penetration testing
  • BA/BS in computer science, information security, related discipline, or equivalent work experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hands-on knowledge of information security technologies such as security design review, threat modeling, secure code review, risk analysis, and penetration testing
  • Experience with vulnerability risk and impact assessment
  • Ability to make concrete progress in the face of ambiguity and imperfect knowledge (avoid “analysis paralysis”)
  • Strong information security risk-based prioritization abilities
  • Information security professional certifications encouraged (SANS GIAC, CISSP etc.)
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a focus on translating technically complex issues into simple, easy to understand concepts
  • MA/MS in computer science/related field

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $157,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $272,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
