DESCRIPTION

At Enterprise Engineering we own, support and maintain services in use daily by Amazonians globally. Our services are the backbone of Amazon businesses and provide all the tooling necessary to maintain the operation ongoing. These services include productivity tools, audio/video communications, onsite services, etc.

The TPM II will help design, implement and ultimately own and oversee the product roadmap of multiple services, working in direct coordination with their teammates as well as other teams within the org or any other business areas. They will need to ensure product architectures are complete, they will work closely with Product Managers to ensure requirements are met, will help define timelines, eliminate roadblocks, help create internal and external documentation. They will also work with internal and external stakeholders (vendors), prepare business reports, manage budgets, etc.

The TPM must have a strategic long term vision and be proactive in its execution. TPMs at Amazon write a lot and have backbone, they are leaders and facilitators. This is an exciting role to sharpen hard and soft skills and get ready for the next level.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, implement and oversee entire product roadmaps.
  • Coordinate with technical teams and stakeholders on project deliverables.
  • Work on an agile environment and bring organization to rapidly evolving roadmaps.
  • Work with stakeholders to provide business reports, executive updates, budget management, etc.
  • Partner with Product Managers to ensure business requirements are met.
  • Facilitate the development process and help eliminate roadblocks so timelines are met and objectives delivered successfully.
  • Work with technical teams to design technical architectures that fulfill product requirements and business needs.

A day in the life

The TPM is a highly visible figure within any service team. They will be in regular contact not only with their team of technical individuals but also with different stakeholders from the same org and from other business units within Amazon. They might even need to have meetings with vendors and external stakeholders regarding new solutions, new features, or any new implementations. TPMs will work with first and third party services, on-prem or SaaS solutions, they will learn a lot about multiple technologies and will need to keep up in a highly evolving environment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of technical product or program management experience
  • 2+ years of software development experience
  • 3+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
  • Masters degree in project management is preferred though not required. ITIL, COBIT and Six Sigma are a plus.
