The AWS Security organization is looking for an exceptional individual with a progressive career history. The Security Messaging Manager will own the development of internal security communications and engagement strategy for public facing security messaging. Delivery will be through executive-level content, key messaging documents used by internal security professionals, and messaging to AWS customers. The right candidate has a strong security technology background combined with a passion for storytelling and experience in communications management. In this role, the candidate will have an opportunity to create communication strategies and world-class content with AWS’s senior security leadership team as well as with global AWS service teams. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with the global security research community directly as well as help to influence the security direction of AWS.

This leader is expected to have a track record of delivering high quality results and best-in-class solutions in a fast-moving environment. We need someone who’s comfortable building teams, developing staff, and leading by example. Our services operate at large scale and on critical workloads, so a passion and discipline for operational excellence is key. We are a mixed discipline team that identifies opportunities to improve the security posture of all AWS infrastructure and drives their implementation across the company. This team helps AWS Service teams and AWS Customers to both build and use the cloud through the implementation of innovative security solutions. The ability to prioritize, communicate clearly and compellingly, and drive a high level of focus and excellence within a strong team is crucial.

This role will be located in either Northern Virginia or Seattle, WA

Key job responsibilities

  • Maintain a prioritized roadmap to address gaps and improve practices.
  • Communicate threats to leadership, customers, and partners in a consistent voice and format.
  • Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration and commitment across multiple groups as part of the organization’s security effort.
  • Communicate project issues and status in a concise, accurate, and professional manner.
  • Coordinate with partner security teams to build tracking and reporting capabilities to drive down risks.
  • Develop and innovate on global security communications strategies, providing clear narrative and effective tactics to engage customers and the security community
  • Lead a team of security communications professionals to support the business and drive messages and program adoption within AWS Security
  • Proactively build and manage relationships with key internal stakeholders across a range of businesses and geographies.
  • Provide expert internal communications counsel and training to diverse groups and senior leaders within the organization.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years leading and building high-performing teams
  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field
  • 5+ years of public relations or internal communication and change management experience
  • 5+ years in a security communications role
  • Internal communications experience within a multi-national company
  • Experience creating digital content and social media community management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working closely with the security research community
  • A history of working with Incident Response or Crisis management teams
  • A bias for action for developing awesome communications assets (presentations, videos, scripts)
  • Ability to easily transition from high level strategic thinking to creative and detailed execution
  • Strong leadership and excellent communication with the ability to drive consensus and articulate recommendations and trade-offs to senior executives
  • Experience developing creative, effective approaches to difficult communications challenges
  • Experience creating metrics to measure communication effectiveness, reach and engagement
  • Ability to think and innovate at scale.
  • Multidisciplinary experience in intelligence, incident response, forensics, program management, and product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity in a rapidly changing business environment.
  • A high EQ with the ability to recognize leading indicators for communication and organizational change
  • A highly collaborative, engaging style that builds relationships effectively

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $147,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $254,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
