Job Description:

In this role, you will have an impact on Amazon's personalized shopping experience, and the satisfaction of being able to look back and say “I was a key contributor to something special from its earliest stages.”

The right person is an experienced Software Development Manager with proven experience leading a fast-moving engineering team. With a strong technical background in user-facing applications or frontend platforms, excellent communication (writing/verbal) skills, and solid people management abilities, you’ll manage and develop a talented and experienced engineering team.

Key job responsibilities

As part of this role, you will:

  • Own the charter and vision of your team, and work with PM, UX, and Applied Science teams to build the best frontend shopping experiences for millions of Amazon customers.
  • Hire and develop talents for your team.
  • Work with stakeholders to build attractive roadmaps and deliver high-quality products for customers.
  • Exhibit excellent judgment on how to prioritize between focusing on existing versus new customers and between features, architectural improvements and operational excellence.
  • Improve and operate mechanisms that drive higher velocity for features and key decisions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, including building and delivering production-grade customer-facing applications.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming (e.g., Java, C#) and familiarity with modern frontend technologies such as TypeScript, React, or similar frameworks.
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining scalable, complex software architectures.
  • 5+ years of experience managing high-performing software engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives involving frontend, backend, and product components.
  • Strong technical judgment, design, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical audiences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience leading the development and launch of v1 products, especially those with significant frontend or user-facing components.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience collaborating with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver intuitive and high-performing user interfaces.
  • Familiarity with frontend performance, accessibility, and experimentation at scale.
  • Exposure to personalization, A/B testing, or machine-learning-driven customer experiences.
  • Strong product sense with the ability to balance technical leadership and business impact.
  • Technical breadth across frontend and backend technologies to guide architectural decisions
  • Demonstrated experience driving cross-organizational initiatives and building strong partnerships across multiple teams
