Overview
Assist the Activities Team under the direction of the Director of Activities with the coordination and implementation of the activity programming for the HealthCenters. This position is a great match and rewarding opportunity for candidates with long term care experience.
Shift: Part time, afternoon and evenings, and every other weekend
Responsibilities
- Encouraging residents to participate in group and/or engage in self-directed activities.
- Encouraging participation in activities while respecting wishes of those residents with little or no interest in programming.
- Leading group activities as assigned by Director of Activities.
- Ensuring resident health, safety and welfare during activities, assistance to/from, transfers in/out of wheelchairs or other specialized equipment.
- Providing creative and adaptable 1:1 activity intervention with residents that have little or no group activity involvement. (A list of those residents needing 1:1’s will be provided as needed.)
- Maintaining proper communication with other staff/departments regarding residents and scheduled activities.
- Interacting with residents and/or families when present.
- Assisting Director of Activities by advising of observations/needs.
- Assuring that all state regulatory guidelines are followed as it relates to above duties performed.
- Maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Completing all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months’ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience: One to two years’ activities assisting is preferred, especially in a long-term care setting.
- Must possess a caring, compassionate, energetic personality and a desire to provide entertaining and stimulating activities to enhance the quality of life and holistic growth of residents
- Must be detail oriented and have excellent literacy and writing, documentation, communications and interpersonal abilities
- Willing to pursue and complete the Indiana 90-hour Basic Activity Director’s Course within one year of employment (not mandatory).
