Summary:

  • The Digital and Customer Technology Team at Penn Medicine develops the data, products, and platforms that power marketing performance and patient engagement across the health system. Sitting within this pillar, the Customer Analytics function is responsible for curating trusted datasets, enabling self-service insights, and delivering strategic analysis that drives enterprise growth and campaign optimization.
  • As part of this team, the Analytics Engineer will play a key role in shaping the data foundation that supports marketing strategy and performance reporting. This role focuses on transforming and curating data from systems such as Salesforce, EPIC, and web analytics into scalable, analytics-ready datasets within our Databricks environment. Ideal candidates will bring a balance of technical expertise and business acumen, contributing to a culture of enablement, innovation, and continuous improvement in how we use data to serve patients and grow our reach.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Transformation & Modeling: Build and maintain clean, curated, and reusable data layers (silver and gold) in Azure Databricks using SQL and Python. Work closely with the Analytics Strategy Manager and stakeholders to redefine key performance indicators (e.g., conversion definitions), support KPI development, and transform source data into analytics-ready assets for campaign performance reporting.
  • Quality Assurance & Documentation: Write efficient, scalable SQL and Python code to ensure high query performance and optimize data processing workflows. Implement data quality checks, maintain clear documentation, and apply version control to ensure reliable and trusted data delivery. Contribute to data governance practices and support compliance with privacy and security requirements.
  • Stakeholder Enablement & Collaboration: Partner with analysts, data strategists, and marketing stakeholders to understand business goals and translate them into scalable data solutions. Develop data structures that empower self-service, align to strategic KPIs, and support campaign optimization and executive reporting.
  • Modern Tooling & Best Practices: Contribute to the evolution of engineering best practices, including adoption of Git workflows, dbt, testing frameworks, and AI tools to increase productivity, transparency, and insight generation.
  • Professional Development: Stays abreast of health care, marketing, and technology-related issues to serve as a knowledgeable leader and system resource. Maintains skill levels in technology tools required to perform job requirements.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree. (Required)
  • 5+ years of experience working in related field. (Required)
  • Master's degree. (Preferred)
  • Experience in healthcare and/or marketing data environments. (Preferred)
