Salary Range

$65,000.00 - $143,750.00

Overview Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Research and Learning, the Director provides vision and leadership for a team of 12 librarians supporting research and learning in science, engineering, social science, management, and related interdisciplinary programs, as well as student success initiatives. Under the Director’s leadership, the department will expand working relationships and collaborations with students, researchers, research centers, and university units to deliver a program of services and expertise that accelerates scholarship. Through robust assessment and user engagement, the Director will ensure that the unit’s program, spaces, collections, and projects are grounded in faculty and student needs, and that the team is positioned to support a dynamic research and learning landscape. The Director will develop and nurture relationships across the university, and act as an ambassador to academic department leaders, university administrators, and campus units. Through such engagement, the incumbent will ensure that the department offers services and expertise that complement and enhance those provided by units at Yale while clearly demonstrating the ways in which the library advances the university’s research and learning missions. The Director communicates and collaborates with colleagues from other Yale Library units and participates regularly in collaborative projects. The incumbent will work across the Research & Leaning portfolio to develop and maintain research and learning support programs and services and work broadly across the library to advance organizational strategies. The Director is expected to demonstrate leadership within Yale Library and the University, as well as a commitment to participation in regional, national, and international professional organizations. The Director must also demonstrate a strong commitment to agile, responsive, and innovative services and programs in support of research and learning at Yale. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills Knowledge and experience delivering research data services. Knowledge and experience delivering scholarly communication services. Experience delivering service and/or program assessment.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Provides leadership and vision for research and learning support in science, engineering, social science, management, related interdisciplinary programs, and student success. 2. Sets priorities and leads multiple projects while meeting deadlines and budgets. 3. Provides coaching, mentorship, and performance management for a highly skilled team. 4. Manages department budget. 5. Engages with deans, chairs, directors, faculty, and students in support of the University’s research and learning missions. 6. Collaborates with colleagues throughout the Yale Library and other campus units. 7. Works independently with varied user groups in a complex organization and team environment. 8. Plans and implements an assessment program for the department. Contributes toward portfolio and organizational assessment initiatives. 9. Coordinates Marx Library facilities, programs, and events in collaboration with the Director of Access and Public Services. 10. Coordinates with departments in the Scholarly Resources portfolio to ensure delivery of high-impact science and social science collections and effective scholarly communications services. 11. Coordinates with the Director, Computational Methods and Data to ensure delivery of high-impact research data support services. 12. Represents Science and Social Science while serving on Library and University committees. 13. Participates in professional activities outside of Yale and monitors developments and best practices elsewhere to encourage innovation and ensure excellence. 14. May be required to assist with disaster recovery efforts. May be assigned to work at any Yale University location. 15. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience 1. A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent degree or other relevant advanced academic degree. Eight years of professional experience. 2. Three years of supervisory, leadership, and/or project management experience, with demonstrated success in promoting teamwork, collaboration, and support for professional growth.
