The Laboratory Quality Control Manager (QCM) is responsible for maintaining adherence to the Laboratory Quality System Manual (LQSM) and ensuring the quality of laboratory operations. This role includes assisting with management reviews, supporting internal and external audits, and reviewing qualification packages. The QCM will have direct access to the Laboratory Quality Assurance Lead (LQAL) and will intervene in technical quality issues when necessary.
The role requires a focus on analysis of key laboratory data to identify key themes, trends, and effective actions to drive continual improvement.

Your Impact
- Assist the laboratory in maintaining adherence to the LQSM.
- Support management reviews and internal/external audits.
- Review qualifications and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Address technical and quality concerns and escalate issues to the LQAL when necessary.
- Ensure the laboratory complies with AASHTO R18 and ASTM E329 standards.
- Maintain records of training, certifications, and registrations obtained by employees.
- Evaluate staff competency program and ensure ongoing training and development.
- Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, and verification programs to ensure implementation.
- Manage nonconformances and corrective actions.
- Participate in proficiency sample testing and on-site inspections to support the laboratory personnel.
- Handle client complaints and ensure timely resolution.
- Ensure Corrective Action systems are established and implemented within the laboratory ensuring timely and effective closure of actions.
- Network with external industry groups on Quality and Assurance matters and bring shared learnings and best practices into the business.
- Provide proposal support for details on Quality Program, staffing key roles, interviews, etc.
- Provide training and resources for Internal Audit teams to assess the implementation and effectiveness of the WSP Laboratory Quality Systems Manual in each individual laboratory.
- Assist laboratory management in project management, posting usages, and invoicing as needed.
- Assist in maintaining corporate level forms, calibration procedures/forms and guidance documents.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a quality control role or a bachelor’s degree with relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems and standards (AASHTO R18, ASTM E329).
- Ability to recognize and address potential quality issues.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and think critically.
- Experience with laboratory operations and equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with proficiency sample testing and internal audit processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications related to quality management.
- Experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in materials testing.
- Knowledge of federal regulations such as ASME NQA-1 and 10CFR50, Appendix B.
