What you’ll do

Process Quality Engineer to lead quality assurance activities across Total Vehicle Construction. This role ensures that all stages of vehicle assembly — from Body in White through Final Assembly — meet the highest standards of fit, finish, function, and customer satisfaction. Activities include vehicle manufacturing, an in-depth understanding of automotive quality systems, and have a proactive, cross-functional mindset

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Oversee quality performance throughout the entire vehicle assembly process.
  • Analyze product quality trends using tools such as Pareto, SPC, and Root Cause Analysis; drive corrective and preventive actions using 8D and DMAIC methodologies.
  • Develop and implement layered quality control plans, inspection standards, and defect detection systems aligned with product complexity and launch phases.
  • Lead problem-solving activities during prototype builds, pre-production, and ramp-up, supporting line-side investigations and repair containment where required.
  • Interface directly with Product Engineering, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing to ensure design-for-quality and build feasibility.
  • Support dimensional quality efforts including fit & finish, flushness, and closure alignment by working closely with BIW, Paint, trim, and chassis teams.
  • Validate critical assembly processes with error-proofing, poka-yoke systems, and real-time quality monitoring (torque traceability, camera-based inspections, etc.).
  • Champion continuous improvement and defect reduction initiatives across stations and systems, fostering a “zero-defect” culture.
  • Conduct audits and support readiness for IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, and VW-specific quality standards.
  • Train production teams and quality inspectors on key process controls and quality-critical features.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, South Carolina
  • The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical related field.
  • 5–10+ years of experience in automotive assembly quality or manufacturing quality engineering, preferably in a high-volume environment.
  • Experience with cross-functional vehicle systems and multi-stage quality assurance (BIW, Paint, Trim, Final Assembly).

Technical Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Gage R&R.
  • Skilled in quality tools such as 8D, Fishbone, 5-Why, and FMEA facilitation.
  • Proficient in quality data systems and dashboards (MES).
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools or part specifications.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $95,000.00 - $120,000.00
