We’re looking for a hands-on Field Service Manager to guide a growing team of Field Service Engineers, drive technical excellence, and shape the future of our service operations. You’ll oversee field service activities, respond to complex service calls, and support product demand through customer-focused technical solutions, site visits, and training events. A key part of the role includes mentoring and developing less experienced FSEs, with a strong focus on building technical expertise and certifications such as John Deere Engine Tech, Deutz Engine Tech, troubleshooting software, DOT compliance, OSHA compliance, and more.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Managing activities, training and continual learning of a team of (4) service technicians located across (4) time zones.
  • Acts as primary trainer, covering topics of basic pump fundamentals, basic drive fundamentals, intermediate and advanced hydraulics and troubleshooting. Setting will range from small branch training opportunities to larger sales seminars.
  • Until such time when we hire a replacement, or develop the talent internally, the service manager will respond to service requests on drives and electronics.
  • Review and approve trip reports, and field service billing documents.
  • Monitor Field Service specific KPIs including: service revenue, margin return, pull-through revenue
  • Attend/lead customer meetings and solicit field service opportunity.
  • Review status and recommend appropriate action against Herc’s deadline equipment and Sunbelt’s down equipment lists.
  • Support Business Unit Leader in growing Franklin/Pioneer’s field service offering and returns by writing and maintaining a long range business plan.
  • Perform a leadership role in the supervision, training and development of less experienced FSEs, with special emphasis on technical knowledge and presentation skills.
  • Perform administrative functions such as expense control and resource scheduling
  • Work collaboratively with and support all IES business units, Franklin/Pioneer locations and customers.
  • Establish good procedures and work instructions as it relates to providing service work to customers. This will require close coordination with the Aftermarket Business Unit.
  • Closely monitor field service technician utilization and load balance field service opportunities across the team.
  • Monitor over-time hours, service truck condition, inventory compliance
  • Conduct performance and merit reviews of assigned field service technicians.
  • Be involved in warranty handling process and warranty disposition meetings/ decisions. Field Service perspectives on warranty can and will weigh heavily in the disposition process.
  • Working with Product Development, maintain the Pioneer training catalog and determine market level pricing for training programs.
  • Manage DOT compliance and perform regular audit of service fleet condition.

Skills & Abilities

  • Writes reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals.
  • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, performs detailed root cause analysis (as required) and draws valid conclusions.
  • Interprets an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deals with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Deals with problems involving several known variables in situations of routine nature.
  • Effectively communicates information and responds to questions person-to-person and in small group and large group situations with customers, clients, the general public, and/or other employees of the organization.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Basic computer skills: Database, word processing/typing.
  • Intermediate computer skills: Contact management, presentation/PowerPoint, spreadsheet.
  • Travels up to 50 percent of the time, including up to 50 percent overnight travel.

Education & Experience

  • Relevant technical knowledge and background. Working knowledge of water systems in general, with specific knowledge of pumps, motors, drives and controls.
  • A BSEE or BSME degree preferred. Degree may be substituted with appropriate training, background and experience.
  • 5-10 years of in-depth industry experience.
  • 3-5 years of technical, sales, or related water systems or industry experience (preferred).
  • 0-3 years of supervisory experience.
