Job Summary:

Teledyne FLIR is looking for an engineering professional to head test activities associated with drone development and fielding. This person must be a detail oriented, self-directed individual, and be able to operate with a high degree of autonomy. This person will lead a test program associated with both fielded and developmental military drones. We expect this person to have previous experience with test activities and be familiar with electronics and drone systems.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a small team of engineers and flight test technicians, including day to day tasking and activities
  • Drone flight testing of mature and development products including test methods development
  • Setup complex experiments to test hypothesis and concepts associated with drone development
  • Analyze datalogs from drone testing – including basic python, matlab, scripting
  • Debug system issues and troubleshoot electrical, software, and mechanical systems
  • Communicate complex technical problems to mechanical, electrical, and software engineers
  • Troubleshoot sensors and systems associated with drone operation (GPS, IMU, range finders, etc.)

Job Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or similar field strongly preferred
  • Engineering experience and mind set with 8+ years’ or equivalent professional experience working with robotic or complex electro-mechanical systems
  • 3+ years’ experience working with commercial or military drones strongly preferred
  • Basic understanding of quad rotor physics
  • FAA part 107 qualified or equivalent pilot rating a plus
  • Familiar with computer programming and software development methods
  • Willing to work in agile environment with flexible daily tasking based on program needs
  • Leadership experience, in an agile environment desired
  • Strong debug and experiment design skills
  • Able and willing to travel to test sites as needed, using company vehicle (clean driving record is required)

Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
