The Bridge Bureau within the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is responsible for providing bridge and structural designs for various transportation projects across the state. The bureau offers technical support during construction, ensuring that bridge and structural projects meet design standards and safety requirements.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.
This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
This position exists to ensure the effective management and execution of bridge-related design projects. The Engineer Manager I is responsible for determining the scope of work for various bridge projects, assessing the appropriate costs for bridge work items, and ensuring that bridge details and plans are complete and ready for review and distribution. Additionally, this position is tasked with verifying that shop drawings comply with the bridge plans, specifications and approved products, and deciding on the format for various drawing details to ensure clarity and consistency across all bridge-related projects.

The ideal candidate will have preferred education, licensure, and/or experience in the following areas:
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and five (5) years of engineering experience, one (1) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.
Business Reference check and Driver's License verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results.
Work is substantially performed in an office setting with occasional field visits. Extensive use of computer monitors, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Exposure to: inclement weather, traffic, construction equipment, heights, confined spaces, hazardous chemicals. This position will require periodic site visits to bridge structures and assistance in the inspection of bridges. Travel throughout the state and occasional out of state travel may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
