Position Summary

Under the direction of the Solutions Development Manager, the DevOps Engineer – Cloud Infrastructure is responsible for the administration, security, and optimization of the Firm’s hybrid cloud environments, including platforms such as Azure, M365, D365, Teams, SharePoint, and Power Platform. This role takes a holistic approach to managing the technology stack, ensuring system reliability, scalability, and alignment with organizational goals. The DevOps Engineer applies specialized knowledge in cloud and DevOps practices to support cost optimization efforts and advance security and compliance initiatives.

The position is remote; however, the individual must reside within 1-2 hours of commuting distance from the Pittsburgh, PA office. This is to accommodate potential emergencies, special circumstances, or occasional in-office work requests. While the role primarily follows a regular schedule, there may be instances requiring flexibility to work beyond standard hours, making proximity to the office important.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee a diverse landscape of systems and applications within the Solutions Development group, providing administration, maintenance, and development support.
  • Manage integrations between interconnected platforms to ensure seamless data flow and prevent disruptions.
  • Administer and optimize Azure and other cloud-based services to maintain a cost-effective, resilient, and scalable cloud infrastructure.
  • Manage hybrid cloud environments to support both on-premises and cloud-based applications.
  • Implement and maintain robust access controls, manage data protection measures, and ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct regular security audits and promptly address vulnerabilities to maintain system integrity.
  • Implement DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, to automate deployment, testing, and maintenance processes, enhancing efficiency and reducing error rates.
  • Utilize scripting languages, such as PowerShell, and Microsoft Graph to automate routine tasks and optimize operations.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize cloud resources, reducing unnecessary expenses and improving cost-efficiency.
  • Monitor and analyze resource utilization to ensure cost-effective performance of cloud environments.
  • Proactively monitor system health and performance to minimize downtime and ensure high availability of critical applications.
  • Troubleshoot issues promptly to improve the overall user experience and maintain system reliability.
  • Provide support for custom development within listed systems, utilizing tools such as Visual Studio Code and DevOps for version control and deployment.
  • Collaborate with developers and end-users to resolve issues and implement improvements as needed.
  • Support organizational growth by scaling cloud infrastructure to accommodate new technologies and evolving demands.
  • Develop strategies for sustainable system expansion, including capacity planning and performance optimization.
  • Take a holistic approach to managing all systems and applications, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives.
  • Partner with stakeholders to assess technology needs and recommend system enhancements and upgrades.
  • Provide assistance to colleagues in Information Technology, including but not limited to application troubleshooting, testing, and support.
  • Participate on special committees, work groups, project teams, or escalation teams related to firmwide IT initiatives, including one-time events (e.g., research, testing, rollouts, upgrades, installations) or ongoing activities.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree in computer-related field. Additional training, education, and/or certification in relevant areas preferred.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in Cloud DevOps Administration.
  • Previous law firm experience or experience in a professional services environment is preferred.
  • Strong ability to analyze complex issues, prioritize tasks, and communicate solutions effectively to support organizational goals.
  • Experience administering Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project), Microsoft Project, Microsoft 365 tools (Power BI, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive), Business Intelligence platforms (Tableau, Power BI), and No Code solutions such as Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics.
  • Experience working with legal-specific software platforms, including Latera, Thomson Reuters, and Intapp (preferred).

Skills:

  • Proficient in automation and scripting, including Visual Studio Code, DevOps, PowerShell, and Microsoft Graph.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security practices and compliance standards.
  • Skilled in CI/CD pipeline management, cloud cost optimization, and project leadership.
  • Experience with version control systems and deployment tools (such as Azure DevOps or Git-based workflows).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the firm.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of firm goals and the ability to prioritize solutions to support them.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project), Microsoft Power BI, SharePoint, Zoom, and Teams.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to constantly changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Provide off-hours support as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. This may include monitoring system availability, responding to incidents, performing system maintenance, or assisting with rollouts, upgrades, and other scheduled infrastructure work.
  • Must work in office as required.

Working Conditions: Works remotely. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule. Potential for in-office work requests as needed, so proximity to the office is important.

Pay Ranges:

This represents the presently-anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith’s pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

  • Pittsburgh: $95,000 - $105,000
