Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler is responsible for the use of motorized industrial equipment to load and unload trucks, transport and locate materials, pick and put away products, and replenish picking locations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate motorized industrial equipment such as sit-down fork trucks, stock pickers, and reach trucks.
  • Perform daily checks of equipment before operation.
  • Operate within standard operating procedures.
  • Use hand-held or truck mounted radio frequency (RF) scanners.
  • Adhere to all safety standards and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate logs or other required documentation for each task.
  • Follow work order instructions to complete assignments throughout the facility.
  • Follow documented procedures with accuracy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in forklift operation and material handling.
  • Experience with inventory control, picking, packing, and shipping & receiving.
  • Ability to operate RF scanners and pallet jacks.
  • Familiarity with cycle counts and warehouse inventory management.
  • Capability to perform order picking and packing tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to pass the motorized industrial equipment test and obtain a license.
  • Willingness to rotate positions/jobs as required.
  • Participation in department meetings and projects.
  • Ability to meet safety, accuracy, productivity, and housekeeping standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good math skills.
  • Timely and regular attendance; flexibility to work overtime if needed.
  • Physical capability to lift 45 pounds.

Work Environment

Work in a weekday shift, Monday to Thursday from 6 AM to 6:30 PM, in a non-climate-controlled production environment. Expect a moderate noise level while performing duties that require reaching, swiveling, carrying items between buildings, and active listening.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $18.50/hr.
