Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Vandenberg Space Force Base is searching for a Chief Engineer for SLD 30 Launch and Test Range Systems (NH-0855-04, GS-14/15 Equivalent).

Description:

Come serve as the Chief Engineer of Launch and Test Range Systems at Space Launch Delta 30! Nestled on the beautiful California Central Coast, you will join a team of professionals responsible for a range and spaceport with an increasing launch cadence and important role in the test and evaluation of weapon systems that are key to our Nation's security and defense.

Ideal Candidate:

Ideal candidate would be a leader with excellent communication and critical thinking skills that understands multiple engineering disciplines and can lead a team of engineers and technical staff on complex multi-phase efforts. Experience with DoD test ranges and associated instrumentation systems is desired. The ability to lead and supervise personnel is a must. Candidate must have initiative, foresight and the ability to work with minimal guidance. There will also be an expectation to develop and maintain capability roadmaps and be able to smartly set requirements to sustain and improve the range.

Key Skills and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of the theories, concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, and materials of multidisciplinary professional engineering to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to new applications, experimental theories, and other areas of responsibility.

2. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.

3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization.

4. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.

5. Knowledge of planning and program management to execute major projects, provide expert advice to colleagues, and present innovative recommendations for advancing programs and/or methods.

6. Ability to research, evaluate, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely and economical solutions.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position.
  • Resumes are to be limited to no more than 5 pages. Position will be closed after 5 business days or after 75 applications are received.
  • An engineering degree at the bachelor’s level from an institution with an ABET accredited program in (electronics engineering) or a closely related field is highly desired.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft within CONUS or to downrange sites in the performance of Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY).
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "Unscheduled Telework"
  • PCS/Relocation funding is available.
  • May be subject to recall during other than normal duty hours and may be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
  • The employee must meet the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing
