The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. The only public graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S., it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism.
The Newmark J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the reporting, writing, interactive, technological, and entrepreneurial skills they need to find stories and tell them effectively. The school currently offers a Master of Arts in Journalism, a unique bilingual M.A. in Journalism for students fluent in English and Spanish, and the nation's first M.A. in Engagement Journalism.
The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY is seeking an Events Manager to take strategic and operational ownership of all public and private Newmark J-School events, from inception to completion. These events include campus community events (e.g., book talks, film screenings, and panel discussions), large-scale signature events (e.g., open houses, commencement, and homecoming), and private (e.g., fundraisers, board meetings, private lunches, and receptions to cultivate and steward donors). The role will be housed within the Communications department, reporting to the Director of Communications, and work closely with Academic Affairs and other departments across the school.
The ideal candidate will be a creative problem-solver who manages a dynamic portfolio of event venues across the city and restaurants close to the school; takes note of experts and industry leaders who would be ideal to host at the school; stays abreast of local, national, and global news; and effectively collaborates with a range of partners, including campus departments, corporate partners, and other organizations. The Events Manager must understand how events elevate the profile of the school and ensure the school fulfills its responsibility to its students by serving as a hub of thought leadership in the industry.

This is a hybrid position. The Events Manager must be able to attend events in person, whether on weekdays, evenings, or weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$82,928 - $90,375/year (Salary range will increase to $90,838 - $98,995/year as of 9/1/25 per the new contract). Salary commensurate with education and experience.
