Job Title: Machinist

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled machinist with a minimum of 5 years of experience operating manual milling machines, lathes, boring mills, and grinders. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work with extremely close tolerances ranging from .0005" to .001" and meet allotted time frames. The role involves manufacturing and making repairs as per instructions and/or drawings, operating machine shop equipment, overhead cranes, and performing rigging. Additionally, the machinist will conduct incoming and outgoing inspections using tools such as micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges, while accurately filling out all necessary paperwork.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manual milling machines, lathes, boring mills, and grinders.
  • Work with extremely close tolerances (.0005" to .001").
  • Manufacture and make repairs per instructions and/or drawings.
  • Operate all machine shop equipment and overhead cranes.
  • Perform rigging tasks as required.
  • Conduct inspections using micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 5 years experience operating milling machines, lathes, boring mills, and grinders.
  • Ability to work with extremely close tolerances (.0005" to .001").
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Pass drug screening and background check.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with milling machine, VTL, HBM, vertical turret lathe, horizontal boring mill.
  • Skill in using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools.

Work Environment

The position is within a large industrial machining department, working on substantial equipment. The role requires commitment to a night shift schedule from 2pm to 12:30 am, Tuesday to Friday, with additional hours as needed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $30.00/hr.
