Job Description:
This position is responsible for the daily facility operations of all Recreation and Wellness facilities including The Well at Colonial, Broadview Fitness Center, Indigenous Quad Fitness Center, all indoor recreation spaces in the PE Building and all outdoor recreation fields and courts. In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing department risk management functions including maintaining certification credentials for professional and student staff.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facility Management
- Oversee the daily operation of Campus Recreation facility spaces including the Colonial Wellness Center, Broadview/Physical Education Building spaces, and all outdoor fields and courts.
- Develop, implement, and review operating procedures, policies, and protocols for facility operations.
- Develop the operating and personnel budgets for assigned areas.
- Serves as a liaison to other campus departments including Facility Management, Grounds, Environmental Health and Safety, and Residential Life.
- Serves as the point person for department work orders.
- Coordinate the annual maintenance activities of Recreation & Wellness Facilities, including scheduled walkthroughs of rec spaces.
- Ensure the cleanliness and order of all Recreation & Wellness indoor facilities and take necessary steps when spaces are not meeting the appropriate standard.
- Provide support to the Assistant Director of Club Sports and Reservations regarding facility reservations and space usage.
- Interview, hire, and train student assistant facility staff to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Colonial Wellness Center.
- Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Colonial Wellness Center entry desk.
- Work with the Associate Director of Operations to ensure all spaces have the correct signage and all reservations, closures and maintenance activities are appropriately advertised.
- Safety and Risk Management
- Obtain and maintain CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Training certification.
- Maintain credentialing for CPR/AED/First Aid Teacher Training to certify new staff every semester.
- Maintain CPR/First Aid/AED certification database for all Recreation & Wellness staff and ensure that all staff carry proper certification credentials.
- Take inventory of all First Aid and Safety Equipment for all Recreation & Wellness areas and ensure all materials are always stocked.
- Work with Recreation & Wellness professional and paraprofessional staff to ensure all student staff medical kits and appropriately stocked.
- Continue to expand areas of knowledge for all apparent emergencies by working with on and off campus partners (ie, Epilepsy Training, Naloxone Training, ect.)
- Coordinate with campus constituents for maintenance and certifications for department AED machines.
- Recreation Operations
- Manage the Colonial Wellness Center day-use locker program including maintenance and patron usage information.
- Oversee Student Affairs van rentals including maintaining reservations and overseeing the driver approval process.
- Assist the Assistant Director of Programming with the Open Recreation program including managing lighting and maintenance of the outdoor spaces and staffing oversite for the indoor spaces.
- Maintain departmental technology inventory including computers, iPads, printers, and student staff communication devices (Relays)
- Serve as point person for Relays, including device inventory, trouble shooting, and company contact.
Ancillary Requirements:
- Assists in establishing and implementing departmental goals and objectives.
- Assists in creating the department's strategic plan.
- Interacts with Director and staff members regarding topics to help identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintains a positive relationship with other personnel and departments that help develop Campus Recreation programs, services, and facilities.
- Represents the Department of Campus Recreation and The University at Albany on various committees, boards, and associations.
- Interacts with students, faculty, and staff to carry out the department's mission.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
- Reports to: Associate Director of Operations
- Supervises: Graduate Assistant assigned to Facility Operations area; student assistants assigned to Facility Operations area.
- Collaborates with: Assistant Director of Club Sports and Reservations, Assistant Director of Group Exercise Programs, & Membership, Assistant Director of Fitness, Assistant Director of Intramural Sports.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Sports Administration, Recreation, Athletic/Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business Administration and/or related field.
- Two or more years of relevant experience in facility management, specifically fitness or athletic/recreation facilities.
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Recreation, Sports Administration, Business Administration, and/or related field.
- Experience working with technology platforms such as EMS, Do Sports Easy, Relay, or similar systems.
- Holds a current AHA BLS Instructor certification.
- Experience in coordinating certification trainings with outside vendors such as, Epilepsy Training, Naloxone Training, etc.
Working Environment:
- Standard office work environment. This position will require physical activity to meet the needs of the facility maintenance function of the position. Must be able to meet the physical needs of obtaining and maintaining CPR/AED/First Aid instructor training.
