What You’ll Be Doing:

We are currently seeking a BI Developer to join our Business Intelligence team in our Chicago corporate office. You will play a crucial role in supporting Equity Residential’s centralized operations by building robust reporting and analytics solutions to enable strategic decision-making. This role involves working with stakeholders across the organization to understand business problems, develop the right reporting and analytics solutions, and provide insights that drive operational excellence. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining SQL-based reporting, leveraging business intelligence (BI) tools, and advising on strategies based on your findings. Your work will support both major initiatives and day-to-day execution, ensuring operational efficiency and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across centralized operations to understand business challenges and develop reporting solutions that drive execution and efficiency.
  • Design, build, and maintain SQL-based reporting to support major operational initiatives and ongoing business needs.
  • Develop and maintain insightful dashboards and reports that provide actionable intelligence, enabling the operations team to monitor performance, pinpoint areas for optimization, and achieve measurable reductions in operational waste.
  • Perform UX design activities and Power BI navigation features (e.g. bookmarks, drill-throughs) to guide end-users through a data-driven story
  • Develop calculations in SQL, DAX and Power BI measures which are accurate and performant on large datasets
  • Proactively analyze operational data to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for process improvement, driving data-driven decisions that minimize waste and maximize resource utilization.
  • Provide strategic recommendations based on data findings, helping business leaders make informed decisions.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability in all reporting outputs.
  • Proactively monitor and evaluate the impact of monthly Power BI releases
  • Act as a technical resource for business teams, helping them interpret data and improve data-driven decision-making processes.

What You’ll Need to Thrive:

  • Experience with Power BI development, visualizations and deployment (3+ years) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Design, Statistics, or equivalent
  • Experience with configuration / management of Microsoft Power BI Service
  • Demonstrated experience in working with relational databases: SQL Server (3+ years) Demonstrated SQL development experience by writing queries and procedures and also using functions to create curated data for use in reporting
  • Experience with Python for data analysis and automation is preferred.
  • Experience documenting business requirements, processes and workflows (1-2 years) Advanced level of MS Excel skills with knowledge of functions, macros, and VBA programming is preferred.
  • Must be detail oriented, and able to work independently and self-prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with business and technical teams to drive reporting and analytics initiatives.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills

Salary: $96,142 - $132,195 / year; in addition to base salary, a discretionary annual bonus is provided.

The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, and qualifications.
