Salary Range: $109,876-$173,675 (Grade B)

Responsibilities

The position is accountable for directing the engineering units for all design activities for the operating jobs and the civil/structural part of all capital'. projects. The Director will be responsible for the upgrades of the Petroleum Tank Systems and all engineering work required such as manpower, equipment installation, design, repair, replacement and testing for all NYCT and MTABC Bus Depots. Accountability for the development of schedules, in house estimates and the review of cost proposals and bid and cost/benefit analysis for the Operating and Capital projects. Accountable for completing all the contracts in construction phase. Accountable for the Select Bus Service 'SBS' program and the Electric Bus modification in depots and roadways throughout the five boroughs.

  • Director is fully responsible for keeping a state of good repair of all 35 bus depots in the five boroughs. He will direct and approve the design completed by the Lead Engineers, Architects, Contract Estimators and. Draftsmen in the development of scopes of work for Department of Buses facilities. He will ensure that these scopes of works are completed by both in-house forces and by vendors/contractors in a timely manner, safely and within budget.
  • Direct and approve design and repair for the petroleum bulk fluids systems for all bus depots. Responsible for working with other city agencies to eliminate all non compliance installation and violations. Provide solutions and implementations to satisfy new DEP regulations. Responsible to ensure that all tank testing required by the state agencies are completed and accepted. Responsible for tracking the funding for all operating projects.
  • Direct activities of the capital Field Support Managers in the development, implementation and monitoring of JOC contracts. Direct and approve the engineering group in the preparation of the technical parts for all twenty three year in house contracts. Participating in the bid process and providing clarification on the technical issues brought by the contractors and vendors.
  • Accountable for completing all the contracting phase of the SBS fare machine installation and payment. Approve requests to provide additional funds as required.

Education and Experience

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Engineering, Architecture, or in a related area, and ten (10) years of full-time related professional experience, and at least five (5) years of which must have been in a supervisory/managerial/administrative capacity; OR

2. A satisfactory equivalent of the combined education and experience requirements.

3. A Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect license/professional certification

Desired Skills

In depth knowledge of transportation operation, equipment and facilities. Must Have extensive knowledge of engineering and architectural practices; construction techniques and practices; Contract development and administration; and NYCT rules and regulation. Ability to direct all Engineering disciplines and all different trades groups. In depth knowledge of the latest estimating techniques and standards.
