The Institute of Human Virology (IHV) is currently recruiting an Long-Acting Injectables (LAI) Program Specialist. Under general supervision, this position fills orders for unit doses, pre-package pharmaceutical, intravenous admixtures, DEA Controlled substances, floor stock, supplemental medications, emergency kits, investigational drugs, and general stock requisitions. Performs various related pharmacy duties including such quality management activities as drug product recalls, nursing unit inspections and pharmaceutical care audits.

Primary Duties:

  • Initiate, monitor, and complete prior authorizations and insurance coverage processes for HIV medications, including long-acting injectables.
  • Serve as the program lead for LAI treatment coordination, including ordering medication, scheduling administration appointments, and verifying consent and readiness.
  • Collaborate with prescribers, pharmacy team, case managers, and insurers to remove access barriers.
  • Manage communication with patients regarding insurance coverage, co-pays, medication delivery, and appointment logistics.
  • Monitor payer policies, changes in formularies, and LAI eligibility requirements; communicate updates to the care team.
  • Track, document, and report on program metrics including prior authorization approval rates, injection appointment adherence, and medication delivery timelines.
  • Troubleshoot insurance rejections and coordinate with pharmacy billing teams to resolve third-party claims issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the IHV clinics medication access mission.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: Two (2) years of relevant experience in pharmacy, healthcare administration, or program coordination required

Experience with HIV care, specialty pharmacy, or prior authorization strongly preferred.

Other: Related experience to program may be substituted for education.

Hiring Range: $58,500 - $65,000, Commensurate with education and experience
