Position Overview

As a Lead AI Interaction Designer & Engineer at Mastercard, you will be at the forefront of shaping how users interact with our cutting-edge AI and machine learning solutions. You'll play a pivotal role in designing, prototyping, and developing intuitive, engaging, and highly effective user interfaces for AI-powered products and services. Your expertise will be instrumental in translating complex AI capabilities into seamless and delightful user experiences, ensuring our AI innovations are not only powerful but also user-friendly and impactful

Key Responsibilities

Lead the E2E design and development of user interfaces for AI/ML-driven applications, ensuring they are visually appealing, highly interactive, and optimized for performance across various devices

Apply advanced user-centered design principles to AI interfaces, conducting user research, creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that address complex AI interactions (e.g., explainable AI, confidence scores, feedback loops)

Develop robust and scalable front-end components and applications using modern web technologies, with a strong emphasis on React.js, Next.js, and utility-first CSS frameworks like Tailwind CSS

Work closely with AI Engineers, Data Scientists, and back-end developers to seamlessly integrate AI models and APIs into the user interface, ensuring efficient data flow and real-time interaction

Champion usability testing, accessibility standards, and responsive design best practices to ensure all AI interfaces are inclusive and provide an optimal experience for all users

Research and implement emerging trends and best practices in AI interaction design, front-end development, and ethical AI principles to continuously enhance our product offerings

Collaborate effectively with business stakeholders, product managers, and other design and engineering teams to translate business requirements into compelling AI UI/UX solutions, articulating the design rationale and business value

Mentor junior designers and engineers, contributing to a culture of design excellence and ensuring high-quality, maintainable, and well-documented front-end code

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, HCI, UX Design, Interaction Design, or a related field. Master's degree preferred

Minimum of 8+ years of experience in UI/UX design and frontend development, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful design and implementation of interactive web applications, ideally including AI-driven experiences

Technical Skills

Demonstrable proficiency in React.js, Next.js, and their ecosystems

Expert-level knowledge of HTML, CSS (especially Tailwind CSS), and JavaScript/TypeScript

Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, interaction design patterns, information architecture, and visual design for complex applications.

Experience with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar

Familiarity with consuming RESTful APIs and integrating with back-end services

Knowledge of frontend performance optimization techniques

Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.

Soft Skills

Strong ability to translate complex AI concepts and business needs into intuitive and engaging user experiences

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical teams

Demonstrated ability to lead design and development initiatives, drive cross-functional projects, and influence outcomes without direct authority

A passion for creating innovative, user-centric AI experiences that deliver tangible business value
