JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
Implement, monitor, and support the School District of Manatee County’s LAN, WAN and WLAN network systems. Functions as a backup to the Senior Network Systems & Security Engineer position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree or higher in Computer Science or Technical College Degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years successful design and support of LAN/WAN architecture.
- Life experience, industry knowledge, training, certification, and other education may be considered as a replacement for minimum qualifications.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License or will obtain within 30 days of hire.

Ability to make presentations to a variety of audiences. Knowledge of federal, state, and District rules, regulations, and policies as they relate to job functions. Possess skills in project management with the ability to schedule time, prioritize, and work efficiently and effectively. Ability to handle multiple tasks in stressful situations with ease and efficiency. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, general public, and vendors. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. SUPERVISES:

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, implement, and troubleshoot the district’s network infrastructure and systems.
- Assists with the maintenance and documentation of network systems including switches, routers, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, wiring, and other infrastructure to include VoIP telephony and PA (Public Address) systems.
- Assists with installation of network and computer system equipment.
- Assists with the testing and analysis of all components of network facilities to ensure optimal operational performance.
- Assists with the ongoing support for the district network security infrastructure including firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, and managed system patching.
- Provides technology assistance to customers via e-mail, telephone and in person throughout the district.
- Work with other members of the Information Technology (IT) team in resolving complex issues.
- Ability to analyze, isolate, troubleshoot, resolve, and determine the root cause of problems and see potential solutions in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of network management tools and techniques.
- Ensure adherence to good safety standards.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
- Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
- Model and maintain high ethical standards.
- Represent the district in a positive and professional manner.
- Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

- Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
- Maintain expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives.
- Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
- Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
- As technology systems evolve duties, responsibilities and activities may change and new ones may be assigned at any time.
- Perform some after-hours work including weekends and holidays consistent with a position in this job classification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
