About the opportunity

Dayforce is looking for an experienced Cloud Architect with deep Azure infrastructure expertise to help drive our cloud innovation and standardization initiatives. You'll be part of the Cloud Innovation and Standards team, responsible for modernizing our cloud environment, adopting emerging technologies, and establishing infrastructure architecture patterns and governance frameworks.

Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Cloud Innovation and Standards, you'll play a critical role in defining the future state of our Azure environment by designing secure, scalable, and resilient architectures that support the evolving needs of our product teams and customers.

This is a hands-on architecture role where you'll contribute to strategy, standards, and designs, while also guiding engineers through implementation. Your work will have broad impact—from shaping landing zone architectures and hosting models for application workloads, to defining resource-level standards and patterns for secure, well-governed deployments.

Who you are

You're a cloud infrastructure architect with a strong foundation in engineering and operations. You've built and secured enterprise systems from the ground up and thrive at the intersection of technical leadership and practical execution. You're passionate about infrastructure-as-code, automation, and modern cloud-native patterns—and you know how to bring people together to get them adopted.

You’re confident in navigating conflicting opinions and bringing clarity and structure to complex problems. You care about standards, governance, and doing things right, but you also know when to make pragmatic decisions to drive delivery forward.

What's in it for you

A chance to modernize and innovate. Help lead the transformation of our cloud infrastructure. Influence architectural decisions that scale across global workloads, and modernize how we host, secure, and govern our Azure environment.

High-impact work. Our customers rely on our platform to manage payroll and workforce functions for millions of employees. Your contributions will directly support the reliability, scalability, and security of our platform as we continue to grow.

Breadth and depth. Get involved in everything from macro-architectures and landing zones to individual service configurations, automation patterns, and security controls. You’ll help define both the high-level patterns and the low-level implementations.

What you will do

  • Participate in our scrumban process, which includes daily standups, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Deliver well-architected solutions based on the pillars of Reliability, Security, Cost Optimization, Operational Excellence, and Performance Efficiency.
  • Design and document infrastructure architectures—both conceptual models and detailed, as-built configurations.
  • Define and champion standards for Azure infrastructure, including network topologies, identity and access, security baselines, and landing zone architectures.
  • Provide deep technical consultation on complex infrastructure and cloud architecture topics, supporting multiple product and engineering teams.
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Operations, and Development teams to lead design sessions, drive implementation, and ensure solutions align with best practices.
  • Lead the development and evolution of our internal architecture pattern libraries and infrastructure standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement across tooling, processes, and automation approaches.
  • Partner with Product Management to ensure infrastructure requirements are aligned with platform roadmap priorities.
  • Share knowledge across the architecture community at Dayforce to promote consistency and learning.
  • Represent Dayforce externally as an Azure architecture thought leader, when requested, at conferences or industry events.

What you bring

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in cloud architecture and infrastructure engineering and operations roles, with 5+ years focused on Azure.

Technical Expertise

  • Deep hands-on experience with:
  • Azure Well-Architected Framework
  • Azure IaaS, PaaS, and networking services (VMs, VMSS, VNet, App Gateway, App Service, Kubernetes, Private Link, NSGs, etc.)
  • Globally available architectures, e.g. HA and DR patterns in Azure
  • Infrastructure-as-Code tools like ARM, Terraform, Bicep, PowerShell, Python, and Azure CLI
  • CI/CD pipeline automation in Azure DevOps, GitHub, etc. for application and infra deployment (e.g. Argo CD, helm charts, etc.)
  • Secure and compliant architectures aligned with regulatory frameworks(e.g., NIST, FedRAMP, PBMM, etc.)
  • Windows and Linux server platforms
  • Identity and access management patterns (e.g., RBAC, Managed Identities, Conditional Access)

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to influence, collaborate, and drive consensus across teams.
  • Leading teams through the definition of standards, and evangelizing those standards across an organization
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic mindset. #LI-REMOTE
