Are you a Professional Engineer with deep technical knowledge of Suncor’s operations and a passion for life cycle analysis, greenhouse gas (GHG) quantification, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact.

We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient engineer to join our Corporate Energy & Emissions team. This role will play a key part in enhancing Suncor’s life cycle analysis capabilities, with a strong focus on developing quantification methodologies to support our initiative to reduce the carbon intensity of our products.

As a core team member, you will be responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy of compliance submissions under the federal Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR). You will also contribute to GHG and energy impact assessments for new projects and technologies, while supporting broader emissions quantification and energy performance evaluations across our base operations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (prefer Chemical or Mechanical), or Applied Science
  • 2–5 years of relevant post-graduation engineering work experience.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
  • Strong knowledge of life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience using LCA modeling tools for data analysis, interpretation, and visualization.
  • Solid understanding of Canadian environmental regulations and policies (e.g., Clean Fuel Regulation (CFR), British Columbia Low Carbon Fuel Standard (BC-LCFS)).
  • Deep interest in oil sands & refinery industry and willing to transfer to the site-based role in the future.
  • Working knowledge and technical understanding of oil production operations and related technical processes.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Proven ability to make independent decisions in planning, organizing, and completing technical assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update carbon intensity calculation methodologies for renewable fuel products and projects to ensure compliance with CFR requirements.
  • Develop new quantification methodologies to reflect changes in operational configurations or evolving regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical support for third-party verification and audit processes related to regulatory compliance.
  • Analyze historical energy and GHG performance data and develop internal tools to support ongoing energy monitoring and improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to evaluate the GHG and energy impacts of future projects and emerging technologies.
  • Collect and validate GHG and energy data for our base business facilities, ensuring accurate inclusion in the Annual Report on Sustainability, Climate Report, and other external disclosures.

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • This is an office-based role, hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with potential travel to sites depending on the work requirement.
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work.
