Job Title: Specimen Processor - Evening Shift

Job Description

This position plays a critical role in the pre-analytical phase of laboratory testing, responsible for accurately receiving, labeling, preparing, and routing biological specimens to ensure timely and precise diagnostic testing. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis and testing following standard operating procedures.
• Unpack, verify, and route specimens to appropriate staging areas.
• Accurately identify and label specimens to maintain traceability and prevent errors.
• Enter patient and specimen data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) with speed and accuracy.
• Pack and ship specimens to designated testing facilities, ensuring compliance with transport regulations.
• Properly store and manage excess specimen samples for potential retesting or reference.
• Resolve and document any issues related to problem specimens, including mislabeling or incomplete information.
• Meet departmental productivity and quality goals while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and OSHA standards.

Essential Skills

• Specimen processing and accessioning.
• Data entry and computer skills.
• At least 6 months of previous specimen processing/handling experience.
• Prior experience in a clinical laboratory, medical, production or specimen processing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous off-shift experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of laboratory, biology, sample handling, and typing.

Work Environment

This role is based in an office setting, located in Dunwoody on Shallowford Road. The working hours are Monday to Friday, from 8 PM to 12 AM or until all samples are processed, requiring flexibility with the end-of-shift hours. The position involves rotating Saturdays, at least two Saturdays a month, with an option to work every Saturday. The role entails working 20-25+ hours per week alongside two other technicians.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $17.50/hr.
