Are you passionate about developing, fielding, and testing groundbreaking, next-generation technologies in the maritime community?

Do you want to make significant contributions to improve crucial U. S. Naval capabilities through engineering leadership?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking an Ocean Engineer to help us build and test the next generation of maritime and subsea systems. You'll be part of the Engineering and Test Group (KME), where we specialize in advancing technological capabilities for U.S. Navy operations through development and testing of sophisticated sensor and electromechanical systems. As a member of our team, you'll make meaningful contributions through your management and experience. You will be joining a team committed to crafting an environment of innovation.

As an Ocean Engineer you will…

  • Lead projects which will advance the state of the art of fielded maritime systems.
  • Interact with U.S. Navy sponsors in establishing system requirements, solution development and test planning and execution.
  • Assist in the brainstorming and developing new initiatives in maritime applications through research and development (R&D) efforts, including crafting novel oceanographic sensors and analysis tools.
  • Plan and conduct tests and demonstrations of sophisticated and complex maritime sensor systems to ensure that system objectives are met. In addition to at-sea tests, you will lead simulation and in-lab testing efforts.
  • Research, investigate, and experiment with next-generation analysis capabilities and look for creative applications in non-traditional ways.
  • Write design documents, test plans, and analytical reports to government agencies and clients.
  • Provide analysis and scientific assessments across multiple peer working groups and organizations.

If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

  • Hold a Master's degree or above in engineering, physics, oceanography or a closely related technical field.
