Amazon Worldwide Grocery Tech is looking for a passionate and innovative Software Development Manager (SDM) to join the Grocery Tech team. This team is deployed to solve some of our most complex and challenging projects and will deliver innovative technical solutions. We have an opportunity to revolutionize on-line shopping and set new standards for accessing the highest quality organic and natural groceries on-online.

As the SDM, you will be a key member of tech leadership and will need to drive forward the technology across Amazon to create a best in class online grocery shopping experience.

We are looking for a SDM with strong business and technical skills, great communication abilities, and a passion to use data and technologies to help Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go, and Grocery online fulfillment.

The Role: Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. As a SDM, you will help tackle a diverse landscape of challenges. We are an early-stage initiative, and you will play an active role in translating business requirements into concrete timelines and prototyping concepts in partnership with other Amazon teams, technology leaders within the team and across the business.

You will:

Own program vision and direction: You identify problems and develop solutions; you embrace performance metrics and measurement techniques because they help you assess how well system-related services are running.

Lead beyond your team: You will be a key part of a small but growing community of engineering leaders who support their teams and contribute to the overall growth of our product development organization. You'll share your experience and technical acumen in order to drive technology decisions across our organization.

You will be working alongside some of the smartest engineers at Amazon and Whole Foods out of Austin, TX, the best city for BBQ and live music. Line dancing and wearing cowboy boots to the office are optional. Most importantly you’ll be contributing to our Higher Purpose of Nourishing People and the Planet!

A day in the life

As a software development manager on this team, you will play a pivotal role in the following:

  • Work with the team and stakeholders to help drive business decisions.
  • Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative software solutions to drive service optimization, cost, and security.
  • Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team deliverables
  • Work in an agile, startup-like development environment, where you are always working on the most important stuff.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
