We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Compliance Manager to oversee and manage regulatory challenges, to include Fire Code Compliance. This includes Certificate of Fitness (COF) requirements for our operations across the New York region, however the position will expand to include Global Operations. The role is critical to ensuring full compliance with applicable regulations and internal safety standards. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of all aspects of the New York COF program - tracking, training, renewal, auditing, and coordination with stakeholders to reduce regulatory risk and maintain operational readiness. US and Canada Fire Code knowledge and experience is also essential. In this role, you will be responsible for program execution, including the development of detailed project roadmaps, will work closely with various internal teams and stakeholders, harmonizing different perspectives, and ensuring cohesive efforts towards common goals.

NOTE: Some travel may be required (no more than 25%).

Key job responsibilities

  • Program Ownership: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive fire code compliance program across all relevant sites.
  • Training & Certification Management: Track all required training by facility and ensure staff maintain active certifications. Coordinate initial and refresher training as needed.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Serve as the point of contact for fire code related issues, ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including regulatory reviews, audits, and permit renewals.
  • Internal Stakeholder Coordination: Partner with local managers, HR, legal, EHS, and operations teams to manage policies and align on compliance strategy.
  • Budget Management: Own and manage the annual compliance budget (as applicable), including exam fees, travel, training costs, and other associated expenses.
  • Recordkeeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of certifications, expirations, and renewals. Provide regular reporting to leadership on compliance status, gaps, and corrective actions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices. Proactively identify and implement improvements to the COF program.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee KPI reporting for a program portfolio, ensuring clear visibility of milestones and project performance.
  • Manage and communicate project budgets effectively.

Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Operational Excellence (OpEx) is committed to the continual improvement of our people, processes, and performance to position Amazon as an industry leader in safety excellence. Drawing from field expertise, OpEx partners with cross-functional teams to resolve global challenges and proactively support 8,000+ WHS professionals. We partner with process owners to understand causal effects leading to defects, leverage process improvement tools and methodologies eliminating defects, improving efficiency, and driving change to optimize safety performance; creating a culture of safety excellence. We are open to hiring candidates to work from the following locations: New York, Bellevue, or Arlington.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience
  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Fire Protection, Facilities Management, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in fire/life safety, compliance, operations management, or a related field
  • Knowledge of FDNY Certificate of Fitness requirements, NYC fire code regulations, North American fire code regulations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a large, multi-site environment
  • FDNY COF holder or experience as a designated COF coordinator
  • Familiarity with training platforms or compliance management software
  • Advanced Degree (Safety or management related fields)
  • Experience with budgeting and cost control preferred

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
