Glimpse of the Job

The Laboratory Coordinator II will oversee daily activities of the lab. The selected candidate will prepare materials, train teaching assistants, and teach/co-teach selected labs. Duties for this role may include ensuring safety protocols during instructional laboratory sessions for undergraduate and professional students, preparing and setting up the laboratory for multiple labs each week, and cleaning the laboratory.

Opportunities to Contribute:

  • Assist with and/or attend training sessions for laboratory instruction.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and lead instructional laboratory sessions while providing technical support for undergraduate and professional students.
  • Grade lab assignments as well as other homework assignments, quizzes, and exams.
  • Scan and upload student work.
  • Coordinate and oversee ancillary instructional areas (offices, support spaces).
  • Assist undergraduate and professional students with assignments, quizzes, and exams.
  • Respond to emails related to teaching laboratories in a timely manner.
  • Assist with daily duties needed to maintain the teaching laboratories.
  • Assist with longer-term lab organizational efforts.
  • Ensure adherence to lab standards and practice to maximize safety and operational effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related laboratory experience.
  • Ability to bend and/or stoop for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and/or move moderate to heavy objects.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and solve problems.
  • Ability to use laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computers.

well-qualified candidate will also possess:

  • Master’s degree in chemistry or related field.
  • Industry and/or teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of chemical safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of chemistry laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to assist in teaching Graduate, Professional, and undergraduate students in laboratory techniques.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience.

Schedule: Must be able to work non-standard hours.
