Description of Job

Position Summary:

This position serves as the primary liaison between the Colorado Department of the Treasury and the Office of Information Technology (OIT) on cybersecurity and IT support matters. The role requires occasional on-site presence at the physical office and includes both strategic and hands-on responsibilities.

Working closely with OIT, the position will assist in conducting threat and risk analyses, interpreting vulnerability assessments, supporting remediation efforts, and monitoring for malicious activity. The role also provides Tier 1 deskside support for Treasury staff, including managing and resolving technical issues, setting up new devices, and training users on supported applications and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with OIT on cybersecurity incidents, risk assessments, and implementation of security measures.
  • Support vulnerability assessments and assign technical remediation tasks to OIT support staff.
  • Conduct periodic audits of systems and infrastructure to detect vulnerabilities or suspicious activity.
  • Prepare the Department’s Annual Cybersecurity Plan (ACSP) in collaboration with the OIT Director.
  • Lead annual cybersecurity training for Treasury employees and ensure compliance.
  • Identify and help deactivate inactive accounts to reduce security risks.
  • Manage cybersecurity penetration testing efforts and report findings to Treasury leadership.
  • Provide Tier 1 deskside IT support to Treasury staff, including device setup, troubleshooting, and limited application training.
  • Coordinate with OIT to image new laptops, install required software, and collect compliance documentation.
  • Train new hires on data retention policies and ensure they understand how to retain their emails and documents.
  • Communicate OIT’s planned server maintenance and IT updates to Treasury staff.
  • Assist in the procurement, configuration, and support of end-user devices in alignment with security policies.
  • Work with the Department Procurement Officer to obtain purchase orders and complete purchases in the Service Hub.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience Option: Three (3) years of professional experience in IT support operations with demonstrated knowledge of cybersecurity.
  • OR
  • Education Option: A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or computer engineering may substitute for the required experience.
  • OR
  • Combination Option: A combination of related education, certification, and/or experience totaling at least three (3) years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IT Support experience in the Colorado State Government
  • Strong proficiency in hardware, software, networking, operating systems, and cybersecurity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Practical experience with security protocols, risk analysis, and threat mitigation
  • Experience providing technical customer support
