Lead Java Developer

We are seeking a seasoned Senior or Lead Java Developer to join our enterprise IT team. Location (Hybrid): Austin, TX

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of innovative software solutions using Spring Boot and microservices to meet business objectives.
  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, ensuring high-quality code and timely project delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze requirements, translating them into technical specifications.
  • Provide technical expertise and mentorship to team members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Develop and maintain scalable and efficient Java applications, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Implement best practices for coding, testing, and deployment, adhering to industry standards.
  • Conduct code reviews and offer constructive feedback to enhance code quality and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, minimizing disruption to project timelines.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, integrating them into development processes where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development methodologies and tools to enhance team productivity.
  • Ensure all software solutions align with the company’s strategic goals and support business growth.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for new product development and deliver innovative solutions that meet market demands.
  • Document technical specifications and project progress to ensure transparency and effective communication with stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • 8–10+ years of hands-on experience in Java backend development.
  • Strong proficiency in Core Java (Java 8+).
  • Extensive experience with Spring Boot, Spring Frameworks, and JUnit.
  • Proficient in multithreading, SQL/NoSQL databases, Kafka, Shell scripting, REST APIs, and building distributed components.
  • Experience developing Java server applications in Unix environments.
  • Familiarity with software build tools such as Maven, Nexus, and Gradle.
  • Solid understanding of web technologies including Java, J2EE (EJBs, Servlets, JSP, Struts), application servers, portal applications, and XML standards.
  • Proven experience in designing and building RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases (preferred).
  • Familiarity with AWS (preferred).
  • Knowledge of performance and profiling tools such as jProbe, JMeter, and YourKit (preferred).
  • Experience using GitHub for version control.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Ability to work effectively in distributed teams and Agile-based projects.

The annual salary for this position is between $ 68,422 to 114,000 depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
