Assistant Controller

Starting Pay: $80,000

As the Assistant Controller for Pratt Industries – Tulsa, you will be a vital support to the Corporate Controller, managing essential accounting and financial activities. You'll be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting for the Plant, overseeing operational processes, and contributing to strategic financial planning, including weekly/monthly estimates, month-end closings, annual budgeting, and profit improvement initiatives. This role requires a high level of accuracy, strong analytical skills, and the ability to seamlessly integrate with various operational functions while being able to back-up other accounting functions.

What You’ll Give:

  • A strong commitment to financial accuracy and compliance with accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS).
  • Proactive support for the Corporate Controller and various departments, including Sales, Warehouse, and Accounts Payable.
  • Effective supervision and guidance for accounts payable personnel and processes.

  • Clear and effective communication skills for presenting financial information and collaborating across diverse teams.

Key Duties and Success Factors:

  • Review, develop, and enforce financial and operational processes.
  • Prepare and submit reports and special projects on a timely basis.
  • Supervise accounts payable personnel and procedures.
  • Reconcile General Ledgers and prepare General Ledger entries.
  • Oversee Inventory Reconciliations and support warehouse staff with inventory inaccuracies and corrections.
  • Perform operational analysis as requested, along with special project assignments.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting principles.
  • Review and ensure pricing accuracy.
  • Manage and support customer complaints and credit memos.
  • Produce weekly, monthly, and yearly sales reports for the sales team.
  • Assist with the yearly budget process.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for Month End.
  • Count and reconcile month-end inventory counts and their valuation.
  • Assist with Month-end re-classifications, accruals, and entries as needed.
  • Collaborate to set up new customers and vendors.
  • Update the weekly KPI's tracker, coordinating information from different areas.
  • Support audits and maintain comprehensive documentation.
  • Collaborate with the A/P team to ensure accurate and timely vendor payments.
  • Perform administrative and other tasks as needed.
  • Comply with safety regulations and corporate guidelines on business ethics.

What You’ll Need to be Successful

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 1-3 years of general accounting experience.
    • 1-3 years of experience working with payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
    • 5-10 years in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • Language Skills: Reading and writing command of the English language; ability to speak effectively before groups; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mathematical Skills: Outstanding math and research skills.
  • Reasoning Ability: Strong organizational skills and ability to self-start and self-direct; ability to meet deadlines consistently; deadline-driven with excellent time management ability; ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Technical Skills: Computer savvy with the ability to learn custom distribution software and SAP ERP. Advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and basic macros.
  • Physical Demands: Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment; ability and willingness to travel for conferences, training, etc.
  • Work Environment: Expect and be able to accommodate short notice for overtime and weekend work schedules.
  • Leadership attributes: Ability to supervise accounts payable personnel and procedures; commitment to upholding company values; problem-solving initiative to support production schedules and resolve financial challenges.
  • Certifications: Understanding of GAAP / IFRS accounting principles (preferred).
