The State Personnel Office is responsible for the administration and oversight of the classified service personnel system which consists of approximately 17,000 state employees from approximately 68 executive state agencies, boards and commissions.

Why does the job exist?

This position is essential for analyzing datasets and providing ongoing support for applications and processes used by multiple state agencies. The role involves collecting, aggregating, and analyzing large datasets from various MS Excel tables to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. A fundamental understanding of MS Excel is required.

The position ensures data integrity by implementing data quality controls and staying updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in operational analytics. Additionally, the role involves conducting quality assurance reviews in compliance with rules and statues and collaborating with stakeholder to improve processes.

How does it get done?

This position is tasked with the following:

  • Conducting quantitative research to develop innovative and creative reports in MS Excel.
  • Utilizing MS Excel functions and formulas to aggregate and analyze data, enhancing business performance and supporting goals and strategic objectives.
  • Performs quality assurance reviews on the data warehouse in People Soft and centralized HR databases, including MS Excel and MS Access.
  • Reviews and analyzes ad hoc reports prior to distribution to ensure the information is accurate and the right level of access to data has been applied.

State Personnel Office, executive and middle management from all agencies and state departments.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other related field with four (4) years of experience directly related to position at time of posting or related professional certification as determined by the hiring agency. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive phone and personal computer usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some statewide travel may be required.
