Purpose of Role

Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining public-facing websites, primarily focused on marketing to customers across business segments of Finance of America. Works closely with design, product owner and development team to deliver high quality software to meet stakeholder requirements. Makes the team better by helping others when needed, providing ideas during the planning/refinement process, and encouraging discussion and collaboration with other developers. Helps to ensure that standards are being upheld, and processes are being followed.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Develops high quality innovative digital engagement tools and widgets, such as calculators and configurators that educate consumers and increase user engagement on educational web touch points.
  • As part of a team, aligns with the business to architect and implement enterprise-level software that puts the customer first.
  • Raises the quality of the customer experience by pushing for front-end best practices that are user-centered, performant, and SEO-friendly.
  • Champions and contributes to our Symphony design system, ensuring design consistency and advancing system standards.
  • Ensures high-performance and availability of the content management system (CMS).
  • Troubleshoots existing problems and develops timely, efficient solutions.
  • Participates in Agile Scrum ceremonies (e.g. sprint plans, backlog grooming, and retrospective two-week sprints).
  • Coaches and mentors more junior developers in internal policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports To

  • Director, Software Development

Qualifications - Experience/Skills/Competencies

  • Minimum 3 years of experience building websites using front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, SASS.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in PHP back-end development.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience building websites using the WordPress platform.
  • Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms, browsers, and device form factors.
  • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages.
  • Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML).
  • Proficient understanding of debugging tools like Firebug and Chrome inspector.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial.
  • Experience with ACF Gutenberg blocks utilizing native WordPress functionality.
  • Ability to use managed hosting platform such as Pantheon.
  • Knowledge in ADA Compliance (WCAG) web development techniques.
  • Understanding of SEO principles.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is ($90,000 - $140,000) inclusive of all geographical differences in the labor market. The base salary for the position will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s work location, skills, education, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members in determining any final offer. We offer a competitive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time-off benefits, flexible spending account, 401(k) with employer match, and ESPP.
