Location: We are seeking an experienced District Manager for the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex.
Unit Descriptions:
The District Manager role will oversee the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC), a world-class urban events campus, located in Birmingham, Alabama. The BJCC is a premier convention, sports, and entertainment complex located in the heart of the Uptown Entertainment District. The BJCC is spread over a couple city blocks that includes the following:
- BJCC Convention Center, Expo Halls, Meeting rooms and Ballrooms (300k+ sq ft):
- Hosting tradeshows, consumer events, galas, meetings, and more.
- Legacy Arena (18,000 capacity arena):
- Hosting national & international touring concerts, productions, and various sporting events.
- BJCC Concert Hall and Theatre (2,835 capacity Concert Hall and 1,000 capacity theatre):
- Hosting national touring concerts, family entertainment, and comedy events.
- Protective Stadium (42,000 capacity sporting and entertainment stadium):
- Home to the UAB Blazers Football, Birmingham Legion FC, Birmingham Stallions, and the Birmingham Bowl.
Job Overview:
The District Manager performs executive-level functions to ensure the profitability of venues under his or her supervision and the overall growth of their assigned region. They will assist Field Leadership in achieving annual business plan targets and are instrumental in ensuring consistent and effective internal processes and communications in order to strengthen Sodexo Live!'s operations infrastructure and to position each business unit for continued success.
Reporting to the Regional Vice President, the District Manager will serve as a key liaison and strategic business partner to Sodexo Live!'s contracted clients. They will work closely with assigned Assistant General Managers to establish operational objectives and priorities and will lead the messaging, implementation and compliance of company programs, standards and policies. They will provide on-going guidance and counsel in the areas of fiscal responsibility, market insight, strategic orientation, operational efficiency, staff leadership development and customer impact.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Work closely with assistant general managers and senior management to strategically move the Food and Beverage and Catering Services to progressively successful levels.
- Develop and execute a strategy to improve the profitability of the units, enhance positive revenue growth and excellence in quality and speed of service, and develop new business, ancillary sales, new accounts and acquisitions.
- Establish and maintain effective customer rapport and maintain mutually beneficial business relationships with clients.
- Create WOW experiences for all clients and customers. Develop and drive (when called upon, support) the successful field implementation of new products, programs and initiatives.
- Provide guidance and motivation to assistant general manager(s), managers and other staff – inspire all managers, supervisors and employees.
- Provide overall planning, direction and control to assigned unit(s) to achieve operating and financial goals. Drive success in management of labor, cost of goods sold and labor scheduling.
- Recruit, train and manage field management team to provide exceptional service to Company's clients, drive growth of revenue and profit and maintain high quality of service.
- Participate in strategy planning sessions.
- Develop annual performance objectives, conduct employee assessments and facilitate management assessments of employees.
- Apprise Corporate HR Department of employee and labor issues.
- Other responsibilities may include participating in the sales process and helping to drive optimal performance on all new sales start-ups
- Regularly review all food and beverage pricing and identify all yield management revenue opportunities.
- Manage consistency of operations by strict enforcement of Company Standard Operating Procedures.
- Minimize legal liability, and ensure venues and employees conform to the regulations of the alcohol beverage authority.
- Implement and enforce sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of kitchen and/or dining areas.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalence.
- Prior management experience of 7-10 years in a food and beverage general management role.
- Excellent presentation, public speaking skills, writing and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with PC and MS Office.
- Must be detail oriented and able to work well within given timeframes.
- Management/ownership of financials including profit-loss, budgets and forecast responsibilities.
- Ability to motivate and influence employees, peers and other staff.
- Strong management and personnel development capabilities.
- Ability to promote and participate in team environment concepts.
- Ability to understand written and oral direction and to communicate same with others.
Other Requirements:
- Mobility is needed to attend various meetings and events. Travel may be required.
- Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays.
