POSITION: ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: Director of Counseling/Student Support Services

SALARY RANGE: Mid $50’s annually, depending on education, qualifications, & experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Accessibility Services Coordinator is responsible for developing and providing appropriate support services to students with disabilities and ensuring compliance with a variety of state and federal laws and regulations relating to students with disabilities. Position responsible for services on the Barrow and Hall campuses. Office located on the Hall campus.

Major Duties:

  • Addresses accessibility concerns and facilitates solutions for students with disabilities;
  • Evaluates, implements and oversees practices that ensure equitable access to facilities, services and learning;
  • Develops documentation guidelines to establish eligibility for students with various disabilities;
  • Works with appropriate personnel to provide classroom and/or curriculum modifications for students with disabilities;
  • Creates and monitors Individual Accommodation Plans to support the academic progress of students with disabilities;
  • Inputs data and manages student accommodations in case management system;
  • Designs brochures, handbooks, presentations, and forms related to students with disabilities, and oversees the Accessibility Services section(s) of the College website;
  • Provides Accessibility Services expertise, consultation, and support to administration, faculty, and staff;
  • Promotes awareness of Accessibility Services;
  • Arranges use of assistive technology and appropriate auxiliary aids needed for students with disabilities;
  • Serves as a College ADA/504 Coordinator to ensure compliance;
  • Coordinates and conducts ADA compliance audits on an annual basis;
  • Facilitates ADA/504 training and awareness to faculty/staff on an annual basis;
  • Collaborates with the Marketing Coordinator to develop marketing materials to promote the Accessibility Services program within our service delivery area;
  • Assists with the coordination and execution of special events, projects, and activities as requested;
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university *and* Two (2) years of work experience in a secondary or post-secondary education environment. (NOTE: These are the minimum requirements, and not what is listed at the end of this job posting.)

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary technical education;
  • Knowledge of various disabilities and the resulting functional limitations;
  • Knowledge of related state and federal regulations;
  • Knowledge of community resources for disabled students;
  • Knowledge of FERPA and other privacy laws pertaining to student records;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, with evening and weekend work on occasion;
  • Skill to work cooperatively with community leaders, students, faculty and staff;
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs;
  • Skill in effective decision making and problem solving;
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public;
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (in addition to minimum qualifications & competencies):

  • Master’s degree in closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • More than two (2) years of work experience in a secondary or post-secondary education environment;
  • Previous work experience in disability services in a post-secondary environment;
  • Previous work experience with a student information system, such as Banner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is typically performed while sitting as a desk or table, or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. Occasionally lifts light objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Work is typically performed in an office environment.
