ServiceNow Test Engineer

Apex Systems is a global IT services provider, and our staffing practice has an opening for a ServiceNow Test Engineer with extensive ServiceNow testing experience, strong understanding of ITSM/ITOM modules, and quality engineering practices to place at our client, an industry leading technology company.

Client: A Fortune 100 Technology Company

Terms: 6-month contract.

Location: Downtown Toronto – Hybrid work environment

Position Summary: The ServiceNow Test Engineer should have extensive ServiceNow testing experience, strong understanding of ITSM/ITOM modules, and quality engineering practices to place at our client, an industry leading technology company. Day to Day Responsibilities/typical day look like:

  • Write clear, traceable manual test cases and validation scenarios that satisfy ServiceNow platform requirements across ITSM, ITOM, and CMDB modules.
  • Test cases will serve as the authoritative source for future automation and must align with ServiceNow workflows, integrations, and platform performance expectations.
  • (45%) Author test cases in the programs testing template per identified ServiceNow flow, module, and integration point.
  • (20%) Derive acceptance criteria from functional and non-functional requirements (e.g., response time, data integrity, workflow accuracy) and map each to the corresponding ServiceNow event or alert.
  • (15%) Peer-review ServiceNow Flows and CI scan output to ensure referenced CIs in CSDM and CMDB align with environment and business rules.
  • (10%) Maintain the traceability matrix that links Application Test Scenario, Test Phase, and Requirement.
  • (10%) Coordinate with ServiceNow platform engineers to confirm required metrics, events, and workflows are in place before a test is declared ready.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience writing test cases for ServiceNow modules including ITSM, ITOM, CMDB, and Service Catalog.
  • Strong understanding of ServiceNow workflows, business rules, and flow designer.
  • Experience validating ServiceNow integrations with external systems (e.g., APIs, REST/SOAP, LDAP, monitoring tools).
  • Familiarity with CMDB health, CI relationships, and CSDM alignment.
  • Ability to validate incident, change, problem, and request workflows end-to-end.
  • Proficient in Jira and Confluence for test-case management and defect logging.
  • Experience with ServiceNow Automated Test Framework (ATF) is a strong asset.
  • Strong documentation skills—can express complex scenarios in concise, unambiguous steps for both manual execution and future automation.
  • Must be proficient in English with strong communication skills to effectively respond to comments and feedback from technical, application, and business stakeholders without ambiguity.
  • Experience in enterprise environments, preferably in banking or financial services.
  • Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk) to validate ServiceNow event generation and correlation.
  • Experience with ITIL processes and operational readiness validation.
