Overview
The Maintenance & Reliability Manager at A-dec is a key leadership role responsible for the performance, safety, and reliability of manufacturing equipment and production-supporting utilities. This position leads the manufacturing machine and equipment maintenance team in developing and executing proactive maintenance strategies while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and employee engagement. The role also includes significant cross-functional collaboration to select, implement, and manage a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), which supports work order execution, asset tracking, and performance analysis. In addition, the manager plays a critical role in capital equipment planning, condition-based maintenance, and ensuring long-term asset sustainability aligned with A-dec’s strategic manufacturing goals.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides overall leadership of manufacturing machine and equipment maintenance operations to ensure equipment uptime, reliability, and support for production goals.
- Develops and implements preventive and predictive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce downtime.
- Applies reliability engineering practices, including Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), to resolve chronic equipment issues.
- Directs the use of condition-monitoring technologies, including vibration analysis, infrared thermography, and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) toolsto support data-driven decision-making and foster a predictive maintenance culture.
- Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), including Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), to continuously improve performance.
- Leads, develops, and mentors a high-performing maintenance team, fostering technical growth, collaboration, and a safety-first culture.
- Promotes cross-shift collaboration and technician ownership of equipment health and standard work practices.
- Collaborates with Engineering and Operations teams to ensure new equipment installations are maintainable, reliable, and integrated into the maintenance strategy.
- Manages the maintenance operating budget, driving cost efficiency through optimized resource allocation, repair part inventory control, and downtime prevention.
- Applies Lean tools and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles to eliminate waste and inefficiencies in maintenance processes.
- Oversees vendor and contractor performance to ensure quality and cost-effective outsourced maintenance and repair services.
- Partners with Information Technology, Facilities, and Operations leaders to select and implement a scalable CMMS platform.
- Leads ongoing optimization, governance, and user adoption of the CMMS as the system of record for asset management, preventive maintenance, work orders, and reporting.
- Ensures CMMS data accuracy, functional integration with other systems, and continuous improvement of digital maintenance workflows.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated expertise in preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance strategies.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performing technical teams.
- Proficiency with CMMS, including implementation, administration, and process optimization.
- Working knowledge of condition-monitoring technologies (e.g., vibration analysis, thermography) and IIoT tools.
- Skilled in analyzing maintenance performance metrics and applying data to drive continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and TPM methodologies.
- Effective cross-functional communicator, capable of building alignment with Operations, Engineering, Facilities, and Information Technology.
- Solid understanding of equipment lifecycle management, industrial automation systems, and regulatory compliance.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, or electrical engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing, maintenance, or reliability, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience managing large-scale maintenance operations and leading CMMS implementation and optimization.
- Background in using reliability engineering tools such as RCFA and FMEA.
- Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (e.g., medical devices, aerospace, food) preferred.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP), Certified Reliability Engineer/Leader (CRE/L), Lean, Six Sigma, or TPM are desirable.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis. Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively. Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
