Overview
The program is designed to provide the basic skills and knowledge essential for maintenance employees. At the conclusion of the program, the employee will have completed the requirements for an Associates degree and demonstrated on-the-job training experience.
Responsibilities
Program Design
- The apprenticeship program combines OJT and academic instruction.
- Steel Dynamics is partnered with Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) to create a 2-year degree in mechatronics.
- The timeframe to complete the classroom portion of the training is two years.
- Work schedule will vary with class schedule and will consist of both classroom time and OJT days in the mill.
- The apprentice will work with a designated “mentor” while in the mill on their OJT days.
- Graduates of the program will move into an entry level maintenance role, ultimately filling a rotating shift position.
